Thanks for giving the book a try everyone.

FYI, Amazon has been slow to make the price change so it's still 79 cents last time I checked... |

Update: Amazon has finally raised the price. The list price is $2.99 but it's currently being discounted at $2.39 and from past experience it should stay at that price for some weeks to come.

Today is the one-year anniversary of Crack-Up's publication and over 5,000 have been sold. I'm very grateful for the reception it has received. |

There's no incentive for authors to write books for the Kindle...or for publishers to create e-editions...if Kindle readers aren't willing to buy them. Lee Last edited by LeeGoldberg; 07-17-2010 at 03:50 AM. |

I finished this book yesterday, and its full worth the $2.99 or whatever Amazon is selling it for. Excellent novel dealing with paranoid schizophrenia. Well paced, interesting, and realistic. Very well put together. Makes one think about several issues dealing with personal responsibility in our modern society. Highly recommended. |

Just letting you know that I've just grabbed your book for the bargain price of $2.89AU from Kobobooks.com and have it tucked away in my Kobo. I'm really impressed and excited to find fantastic writers giving their creations a go via independent or self publishing. I'm sick and tired of having crap massaged for the masses by corporations. I'm looking forward to your book and will post a review on kobobooks.com when I've finished. All the best in your other endeavours. cheers mate, dale |

Thanks for the good wishes, Lee, and thanks for the purchase and (eventual) read. RE: sharing excerpts with Joe, I didn't notice any uptick at first, it's kind of hard to hold all other factors constant and assess one marketing move. (One reader mentions the book in an Amazon thread and there's a bump in sales, somebody in the Amazon associates program highlights the book on their website and there's a bump, etc.) What I have noticed is my books are fairly high in the "Customers who bought this book also bought" section on Joe's pages, so I think that suggests a positive effect. Check out this new site: http://kindlecheapreads.com

Today it features a pair of my thrillers, "Crack-Up" (currently $2.39 and available in many formats) and another stand-alone thriller I co-wrote with Brad Schoenfeld called "Frame-Up" (currently 99 cents and only selling on Amazon, no DRM). |

Honestly! I don't think most readers ever think about how writers earn a living. Or if they do, they probably imagine fat advances from publishers. As a reader most of my most beloved books were purchased used often in the 5 for $2 bins at the Strand. There's so much free content out there for e-books as well. I can understand the reluctance to spend money. Everyone is looking for bargains. |
