It is a very exciting time to be in the market for a slate. I am so ready for a Windows 7 slate, how much longer do we have to wait?

I wonder if it'll come with home theater software and infrared support. Given that high end remotes cost more than tablets... |

more than likely it will be home prim. version of win 7. My concern is with battery life and the needed memory requirements. I am looking forward to seeing the slates and I really hope they do show up and that they work.

If they're so "hardcore" about slates, they'd better start showing us some products. The iPad is out NOW. Even as a fan of Windows, if I'm in the market for a tablet device a list of companies who will be making one can't compete with a device in my hand.

While it would be nice if they could keep companies like Fujitsu in the slate market (they recently discontinued their Stylistic ST6000 line), there are a couple of slates running (or which can run) Windows 7 available:

http://www.motioncomputing.com/produ...let_pc_J35.asp http://reviews.cnet.com/tablets/arch...-33800951.html Unfortunately, the marketplace has mostly switched over to convertibles (pending the release of devices intended to compeat w/ the iPad). This has gotten so bad that some people purchase the Axiotron ModBook: http://www.axiotron.com/index.php?id=home and then install Windows on it. William |

http://www.dynamism.com/notebooks/viliv-x70.shtml For what I want, most slates (like the iPad) are too big to carry around.

I do not think it is too late for Microsoft to offer a compelling Windows 7 tablet ... but the "Windows" is definitely closing. They have virtually lost the phone market ... and the tablet is the bridge from phone to netbook to laptop to desktop to enterprise. The stakes, therefore, are very high. Microsoft cannot afford to play "me too" games and expect to be a significant player in the mobile device market three years from now.

The only hitch being that Microsoft isn't going to offer any tablet, that's up their hardware partners to do. Windows 7/Surface is touch ready now it's up to the OEMs to deliver the hardware.

No one who speaks like this to consumers has my confidence. Or maybe there are more consumers out there concerned with "today's enterprise IT solutions" than I realize. |
