The very first ad on Google home page
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-575...-home-page-ad/
Google's Nexus 7 tablet pops up in rare home page ad In a first, Google is actually touting a product on its home page, which is typically free of advertisements. The $199 tablet started popping up on Google's home page today, marking the first time the company has so directly promoted a product. That Google would go to such lengths underscores the company's desire to make a bigger dent in burgeoning tablet market, one still dominated by Apple's iPad. Given the traffic that goes through Google, the home page is one of the most coveted spots and prime real estate for advertisers. The company, however, has traditionally resisted attempts to run advertisements on its main page, beyond a link to its Chrome browser. This is like Barcelona and its ad-free shirt. |

When I saw this thing bounce out of the "pocket" at the bottom, my first reaction was: "Oh, they have the logo animation thing below the search box?"
Then I realized it was an ad for the tablet. Kind of a double disappointment. |

Very interesting.
I've always believed that the reason for Alta Vista's demise was that their search page was over-crowded with images, headlines, thumbnails, and other distractions, including a fair number of adverts. When Google came along, users instantly took a liking to its clean, uncluttered search page, so much so that it soon knocked Alta Vista from its spot at the top of the search engines. Will history repeat itself? Mike |

Nah. I don't think that the ad will be there for TOO long. And, it probably wont be a constant thing in the future. Maybe if/when they throw out a new Nexus thing or are having a big quick-sale of the soon-to-be outdated Nexus 7 (if they had a new Nexus to sell coming up).

I hate redirection. If i type in a URL I expect to end up at that page.

Or, are you using the Google toolbar? If so, try to navigate to Google.com from google.co.ma (by clicking the link in the bottom right corner of the google.co.ma home page). Then do any search within google.com. You might find that solves the problem. Mike |

Thanks Mike.
I got there on IE (32 bit) and yes, I do have the Google Toolbar. When things like this happen I'll probably remove it. I refuse to be controlled by a machine. |
