I'm currently reading "The Dark Trilogy" by Patrick D'Orazio. It's an omnibus containing 3 novels as well as affiliated short stories (250k words in all). I'm only about half way through the first book but it's already killer. It's fairly standard survival horror fare so far but there are a few scenes that genuinely scared me, something that has pretty much never happened with a zombie novel. He just has a way with descriptions, especially in a scene where the characters come across some victims, that just absolutely chilled me.
I don't know if other epub retailers have it but it's only $5 on Amazon. It's a steal. |

World War Z is one of my favorite books, let alone zombie books; glad to see it get so many mentions in the thread.
I tried to get into Wellington's Monster series, but the whole "smart zombie" thing and the supernatural elements didn't really work for me. |

if you haven't gotten it already i'd stay away from Spore. killer opening but the last 1/4 devolves into absolute ridiculousness. its one of the very few books where i skimmed through the ending. |

Recent reads:
"The Infection." by Craig DiLouie. A squad of soldiers and a few civilians band together to survive The Infection. Story deals with the trauma of the ZA and how people are affected in different ways. Some can't deal with the idea of being safe in a refugee camp and feel more comfortable on the road with their friends. "Allison Hewitt is trapped" English Lit grad student escapes from a book store safe room in search of safety, and her mother. Along the way Allison discovers the value of a good axe, how not to mix alcohol and muscle relaxers, minor surgery, and love. Character-driven drama; many characters that you end up caring for - as long as they live. "Mort" by Rod Redux. Unusual mix of zombies and vampires. Not really well written characters but the vampire twist is unique. "Ex-Patriots" by Peter Clines. Sequal to "Ex-Heroes" with The Mighty Dragon, Stealth, Zapp, and Ceberus meet up with some genetically-engineered super soldiers from the US Army. I'm only half-way into this so won't give any spoilers. You need to read Ex-Heroes first. Last edited by ZombieEatsYou; 08-11-2011 at 04:18 PM. |

not zombies per se but i'd recommend Bigfoot War by Eric S Brown. the 1st book features human vs sasquatch action. the second book features human vs sasquatch vs zombie vs *something else* combat. theyre fast, fun, gory reads. |
