Thanks for the heads-up. I didn't know there was a third book in the works. I also didn't know Bourne was a serving military man.

hi, i'm new but i'm pretty familiar with the zombie genre. i'm sorry if there are some repeats.

the best zombie novels i've read would probably be the entire Tomes of the Dead series by Abaddon Books. particularly I,Zombie, Tide of Souls, Empire of Salt and Words of Their Roaring. the entire line offers pretty interesting twists on the genre, theyre not just standard survival horror novels. I,Zombie is probably the best of the line. the cover and description sound kinda silly but it's one of the most mind-bogglingly apocalyptic books i've ever read.

I searched the thread, but could not find it.

Not quite a book, just a short story serialized over 6 chapters, but I found H.P. Lovecraft's "Herbert West: Reanimator" not only very good, but also one of the very first depictions of zombies in fiction, despite not being called that nor them being particularly fond of brains as opposed to general flesh.

Like most Lovecraft, it focus on psychological horror through subtlety, not gratuitous gore as I suppose most zombie books are about.

The story is in public domain and available for free among many others in a superb Lovecraft collection here at MR. MOBI also available here.

Has anyone mentioned Diana Rowland's "My Life as a White Trash Zombie" yet? It takes a totally new spin on the zombie theme, and Rowland is an excellent author.

Talking about giving new spins on Zombie themes, I actually started a thread a few days ago in order to get feedback on what people think about changing Zombie traits and maybe other fictional creatures. So if anyone wants to make part of the discussion the thread is here. I would appreciate the input from you "Zombie Lovers"

Has anyone read Warm Bodies? I have read some of it but it is SO different than what you usually find in a zombie book. For one thing, it's from the perspective of the zombie. I'm wondering if anyone else read it...

So I just finished _Feed_ last night. It features zombies, risk-takers, bloggers, politicians, intrigue, and suspense. It's also a very thinly disguised political screed. It was awesome.

I gave up on Feed. Didn't seem to be going anywhere and I didn't care for the two protagonists.

It's pretty much straight-up political intrigue, with zombies. If you don't like that genre it would make sense that you wouldn't like this book.

I read a lot of sci-fi, and I find that I have no tolerance for the bog-standard literary trope + aliens, witches, whatever, unless it's a trope I already enjoy such as political intrigue.

Just finished World War Z (very well written, and a different and interesting angle on the zombie thing, I thought), and am starting on The Enemy by Charlie Higson.

I have read of all his adult fiction, but as this is a YA book, I'm approaching it with a measure of trepidation. Will let you know...

^ Indeed! World War Z was quite excellent!

@Orlok: Ah, I see what you do - cool idea to use the nickname caption to indicate the book you are reading. Clever guy!
