If you have a 2nd generation kindle, why not get the m-edge guardian case, it's waterproof to, I think, 3feet and is on sale now: http://www.medgestore.com/products/kindle2-guardian.psp
I received mine in the mail a few days ago, and it feels really secure. Tested it at the bottom of a pail of water for 10 minutes too ![]() |

If you have a K2 look at the KlearKase. I liked the look of that case. It offered a good amount of protection, it was not water proof but would probably be fine at the beach as long as you didn't toss your Kindle into the ocean, and it was light weight. A good fit.
There are many more options for the K2 then the K3. I think the new directional pad is having the companies that made more protective cases, like M Edge and Klear Kase, to completly redesign their cases instead of being able to make minor alterations. |

Some of the store brands are probably not waterproof, and maybe the storage bags aren't, but I've dunked my Kindle and my Sony a few times while inside a Ziploc freezer bag and water has never gotten inside.
To test water-tightness, fill a Ziploc with water, seal it, and then shake it. If no water escapes, then no water can get in, either (unless you go deep enough for water pressure to become an issue). I dropped my Ziploced Kindle in 8 feet of water with no ill-effects. I was diving after before it reached the bottom of the pool, so it wasn't down there very long, but it was fully submerged and came out dry. |

If you don't intend to read in the surf or on a boat but just sitting on the beach you might try saran wrap. It is thinner than ziplock bags and easier to read through, especially when it stretches tightly over the reader. It will keep sand and spray out but I wouldn't subject it to a dunking.

A cheap option is to go to an outdoor store and get a map case. These are clear plastic cases which are totally waterproof. They also have a cord so that you can hang it around your neck.

You could try http://www.waterproof-paper.com/ they have a bunch of different waterproof bags, I have a few different sizes and have been whitewater rafting, skiing, hiking, kayaking and even surfing with them all and have never ever had a leak. I would also suggest getting a packet of the Silica Gel Packs, I think there were 5 small packets in the package I bought. We use them here because of the high humidity (80% - 95% all year round). You don't want to start with moisture in you bag before you get near the water.
I can't vouch for the above site, I didn't buy my bags online, I picked them up locally in Canada at a place called Wholesale Sports, I have seen them at MEC (Mountain Equipment Coop) as well. I don't think they were a lot, I'm rather cheap ![]() I would also second Harry's suggestion of Map Cases, But you might find the sizes too big? I've attached pics of the few sizes I thought you might be interested in. Cheers Last edited by Mortis; 01-16-2011 at 06:35 AM. |

![]() ![]() I use ziploc for now but have TrendyDigital in purple on my wish list. It comes with a strap to hang it around your neck. That would make it much easier to not leave it lying around. |

I'm also thinking of the Trendy, altho, not purple - for protecting it when hiking in the event that it rains. But I'm also thinking of an aluminum flip case for protection in the daypack, also that would also serve as an easel stand for reading at a table.

I feel like a geek when I have a USB memory stick hanging around my neck.
I can't imagine how geeky someone would look with a kindle hanging around their neck! |

I usually have about 30 pounds of Savannah cat draped over various portions of my body when using the computer. also, one of them has started using the keyboard more and more often. I try to catch the errors, but obviously quite a few make it through
