Oh, I know a thing or two about persistence.

Sadly, my persistence usually shows up in the help forums, not the pictures-of-cats forums. I guess I'm just not as interesting.

You have way more than I have and I have been here since 2007. The Karma system needs overhauling and will change when the software gets changed. Some people made some deals among themselves to give each other karma until they got to millions of points and then they can give out huge amounts. It has taken away all the meaning from the system. The future system will not have an elevation system for karma points.

Well, all joking aside, I value the karma I have -- I worked hard for, err, most of it!
I'm okay just so long as I can still see the list and the messages from people who have tapped me.

And on that note, a milestone for me. 45M karma, and just like my post count I built it up primarily through the calibre and Kindle forums, helping people.

There are a few constants even in magic.
Think Gamp's Second law of Elemental Transfiguration, and you won't be far off.
Money/power/karma -- stuff like that. Certain things simply cannot be made -- whether those rules are inherent to magic or limitations set in place by some higher power, is one of the great thaumaturgical mysteries. Better wizards than I have failed to find an answer.

Ironically enough, there is tremendous karmic backlash if you try to conjure up karma!

Well I've got high karma, but it certainly wasn't from cutting any deals. It was because someone with high karma kept giving it to me for the pics and jokes I was posting. And actually, it's so high it has become meaningless to me - I don't pay attention to the number, but rather to the fact that I have been given some at all, which I do appreciate .

Yes, I understand exactly how you feel. This is one reason we intend to revamp it. There are a few that achieved very high karma which allowed them to give it out in huge chunks. Once one person doubled my Karma.

When that happened then the new users karma points were so insignificant that they were lost in the shuffle and it is the new users whose karma points are the most important. Who ever dreamed up the idea of giving some people the ability to shower people didn't understand the ultimate purpose of saying thank you for some help. I now only look at the messages, not the numbers. Unfortunately messages are optional.

With you 100%. In fact. I would rather a "thank you/I approve" type system, where you can add a message, but there's no running total.
