The writing is breezier than Stephenson. They're very different style wise.

Shift is a different tone, as it mostly follows the beginning of the silos. But it does reveal a lot about what's going on in the background.

Maybe. But I have so much on my TBR as it is that it's not worth the hassle involved in 'travelling' to the US.
