Maybe what Microsoft meant is that it's complicated for them to get Skylake CPUs working properly. Apparently their Surface Tablets crashed and burned at the AFC Championship football game yesterday -- and now I find that there are some serious issues with the Surface 4 and Skylake processors (and these use Windows 10) ...

No offence to Denver, but Belichick lost that game for New England. Not Ne's players, but the coach. A well deserved comeuppance, I say...

Rant: open a sports thread folks (then I can ignore its existence) - sport is so epically unimportant that it doesn't deserve place in a real-life rant thread.

True, but your distribution has to be very old.

xHCI controllers have been shipping since December 2009. Linux drivers are available online.
So, for the last 5-6 years, EHCI and XHCI have existed side by side in at least some mainboards, and now the Skylake chipset is officially dropping EHCI.

I assume the Linux kernel has already integrated XHCI support a long time ago.

You don't want to be a Beta Tester for Microsoft's corporate accounts? Too bad - you are, like it or lump it.

You want to read reviews of a new release's bugs before determining whether to install? Too bad - Microsoft is going to ram it into your computer, and you can't stop it.

You decided not to upgrade to windows 10? Too bad - Microsoft is going to try every trick they can think of to make you upgrade.

Look, if I had wanted this sort of computing environment, I would have converted over to Apple, a decade ago.

Because, make no mistake, Microsoft is aping Apple. They are making their OS a walled garden, which it wasn't before, with Windows 10. That's what the nay saying is all about, the elimination of user choice and control over their computing environment.

Non servum.
Don't a lot of the changes have to do with security?

I guess I don't mind much because I don't use my laptop much anymore; and when I do Windows 10 usually serves only as a launcher for Office, for a web browser, or to print something that my phone or tablet can't print without mangling.

Wow. The computing world has shifted a lot in the last 5-10 years.

Then they fired the offensive line coach, when he'd actually spent the season doing an outstanding job patching up a leaky, injured, never properly attended to offensive line.

Back to the tablets:

The announcers have spent parts of two seasons calling them "iPads", to Microsoft's chagrin.

As soon as they don't function properly, the announcers suddenly got it right: "THE MICROSOFT SURFACE DEVICES ARE NOT WORKING"

I found that hilarious - Microsoft didn't.

That XP figure is extraordinary given that XP came on the market in 1999 (perhaps)?
Yeah me too i don't have interest in updating my pc to windows 10 because i'm satisfied with my windows 7. I'm part of your Win7 48.14% lol. Good news for those who love to update there pc to win10.

Well it must be real now.....the DOD is upgrading their computers.

"The U.S. Department of Defense is going to standardize 4 million computers on Windows 10, a significant endorsement for Microsoft's latest operating system.

It marks the largest announced deployment of Windows 10 in an enterprise setting to date. The goal is to have all of the DoD's computers that are currently running older versions of Windows upgraded to Microsoft's new OS within a year.

That's an incredibly fast timeline for an organization of the Defense Department's size, especially since Windows 10 hasn't yet been on the market for a year. It's a move to streamline the department's IT infrastructure, which is increasingly important as a key means of protecting from digital attacks....."

Naw, to do that they have to buy four million microphones, and with sequestration they can't afford it.

And now Forced upgrades...

Microsoft upgraded users to Windows 10 without their OK

This weekend's Windows 10 upgrade has users angry, and it's unclear if the ploy will continue

InfoWorld | Mar 14, 2016

Although I've seen sporadic reports of forced Windows 10 upgrades appearing out of the blue for several weeks now, the complaints really started piling up Friday evening. More and more Windows 7 and 8.1 customers are complaining that Microsoft upgraded their computers to Windows 10 -- and they didn't do anything to bring it on.

I seem to have good luck with changing my windows update settings to

Important updates: Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them

Recommended updates: uncheck the Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates

When I install updates, I go through all of the updates that are just "Update for Windows ..." and check the description of the update for anything referring to Windows 10, Windows Update or Windows Customer Experience, and hide them. In particular, I make sure KB2952664 add KB3035583 are hidden and uninstalled if they are accidentally installed. There are a couple more, it's easy to search for the list of them, but KB3035583 is the nasty one that keeps popping up the "You REALLY, REALLY want to upgrade to Windows 10, don't you" popups.
