Maybe what Microsoft meant is that it's complicated for them to get Skylake CPUs working properly. Apparently their Surface Tablets crashed and burned at the AFC Championship football game yesterday -- and now I find that there are some serious issues with the Surface 4 and Skylake processors (and these use Windows 10) ...

No offence to Denver, but Belichick lost that game for New England. Not Ne's players, but the coach. A well deserved comeuppance, I say...

Rant: open a sports thread folks (then I can ignore its existence) - sport is so epically unimportant that it doesn't deserve place in a real-life rant thread.

I guess I don't mind much because I don't use my laptop much anymore; and when I do Windows 10 usually serves only as a launcher for Office, for a web browser, or to print something that my phone or tablet can't print without mangling. Wow. ![]() |

Back to the tablets: The announcers have spent parts of two seasons calling them "iPads", to Microsoft's chagrin. As soon as they don't function properly, the announcers suddenly got it right: "THE MICROSOFT SURFACE DEVICES ARE NOT WORKING" I found that hilarious - Microsoft didn't. Well it must be real now.....the DOD is upgrading their computers.
![]() "The U.S. Department of Defense is going to standardize 4 million computers on Windows 10, a significant endorsement for Microsoft's latest operating system. It marks the largest announced deployment of Windows 10 in an enterprise setting to date. The goal is to have all of the DoD's computers that are currently running older versions of Windows upgraded to Microsoft's new OS within a year. That's an incredibly fast timeline for an organization of the Defense Department's size, especially since Windows 10 hasn't yet been on the market for a year. It's a move to streamline the department's IT infrastructure, which is increasingly important as a key means of protecting from digital attacks....." http://www.pcworld.com/article/30338...computers.html |

I seem to have good luck with changing my windows update settings to
Important updates: Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them Recommended updates: uncheck the Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates When I install updates, I go through all of the updates that are just "Update for Windows ..." and check the description of the update for anything referring to Windows 10, Windows Update or Windows Customer Experience, and hide them. In particular, I make sure KB2952664 add KB3035583 are hidden and uninstalled if they are accidentally installed. There are a couple more, it's easy to search for the list of them, but KB3035583 is the nasty one that keeps popping up the "You REALLY, REALLY want to upgrade to Windows 10, don't you" popups. |
