Recently finished three books:

While the Light Lasts by Agatha Christie. The last unread fictional work by her in my "Agatha Christie Reading Challenge". A book of miscellaneous short stories, each of which has an interesting write on about its history. Recommended.

License Invoked by Robert Asprin and Jody Lynn Nye. An "urban fantasy" novel I bought from Baen in March 2001. Liz Mayfield, special agent for the British government Office of Occult & Paranormal Sightings Investigation (OOPSI) is assign to guard Irish folk rock singer Fionna Kenmare on a tour of the United States, because the singer claims to be under occult attack. An enjoyable piece of fluff. No depth to it, but a fun was to pass an evening or two. Recommended.

Come, Tell Me How You Live by Agatha Christie. A short book Christie wrote in 1944 describing her experiences in the mid 1930s accompanying her husband, Max Mallowan, on archaeological expeditions in Syria. Absolutely fascinating, and hilariously funny. If you haven't read this gem, you really should. VERY highly recommended indeed!

Finished, and very much enjoyed it. I started #6, Death of a Ghost, but then I remembered how very complicated it is to keep track of all the characters, especially at the beginning, so I'll just watch the BBC production with Peter Davison as Campion for this one. Jumping ahead to Flowers for the Judge. Again, this is a KU read, so free.

I ended up reading The Bat first, thoughts in the book club thread, and I finished Good Omens; The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch yesterday. It took a while and I am glad it is over; it wasn't bad just not great. Neil Gaiman is pretty hit or miss for me.

I have also read several short stories in the mean time to pad my count for the year. Last Son of Tomorrow by Greg van Eekhout a Tor.com short story (recommended in this thread); Tomorrow is Waiting by Holli Mintzer a short story I nominated for the December book club; Mayfly by Heather Lindsley; and Zen by Jerome Bixby. The last two of which were also nominated for December's book club, although none of the three received full nominations.

I am currently reading a horror/zombie novella, Hive by Griffin Hayes, that I got for free in November. Edit: It was ok, with an interesting take on zombie like things, but not interesting enough for me to keep going.

Edit: Next up: Manna: Two Visions of Humanity's Future by Marshall Brain. Nominated by WillAdams for the December 2014 book club.

I'm reading Jinx High, the fourth and last of Mercedes Lackey's Diana Tregarde paranormal investigations mysteries. Originally written in the early 1990s, the four books in this series were recently re-released by High Flight Arts and Letters. Next up is Saint Peter's Fair by Ellis Peters, #4 in her Brother Cadfael mysteries.

Revival was quite riveting and therefore very hard to put down to do necessary things (like meals, sleep, etc...). I really, really enjoyed reading it. Of course I've enjoyed everything I've ever read that was written by Stephen King! I've even liked the ones that were highly criticized by some fans.

I've begun reading The Last Safe Place by Ninie Hammon which was a freebie from Amazon in mid-November (it's now no longer a freebie but still only $2.99 for the Kindle version).

I just finished reading The Last Safe Place and found it to be an engrossing story containing an interesting assortment of characters who kept my interest in the situations that they faced from the beginning to the ending of the book!

Next I'm going to read my monthly freebie from the Amazon Prime lending library, The Case of the Bouncing Betty (Ed Noon Mystery #6) by Michael Avallone.

Just finished Unbroken by Lauren Hilenbrand and what a riveting read! Movie comes out on Cristmas Day and I plan on seeing it.

While it was interesting and two seemingly different takes on humanity's future it ended before the ramifications of option 2 became completely clear. I am wondering if this is actually finished or not? Maybe the author was intentionally leaving it unclear to make a point, but I am not sure. Could have made for some good discussion in the book club though.

I will need to comb through my TBR pile to decide what is next.

I just read the most amazing book called The City & The City by China Mieville. I don't usually read books that seem to be very popular at mobileread, but my guess is that this one is. It was so good that I just downloaded another of his books from my library's website - Embassytown. I will read everything by him before I'm done. It might be my favorite book for 2014. Certainly it's in my top two or three.

The Case of the Bouncing Betty was, as it usually is for the Ed Noon books, a really enjoyable reading experience. Next I'll begin reading my freebie for December in the:

program, The Last Passenger by Manel Loureiro, Andres Alfaro (Translator). It concerns the Valkyrie, a German ship veiled in secrecy for decades after it was discovered adrift in 1939 with only one passenger aboard, a baby boy named Isaac Feldman. Along with The Last Passenger I'll also be reading Superheroes Anonymous by Lexie Dunne. This one I'm reading because Lexie Dunne is a friend's cousin's daughter.

I just finished reading Fancy Pants by Cathy Marie Hake. It is a good, light-hearted book for anyone who doesn't want something with a bunch of meat to it. I borrowed it from the library to see if the author was any good and she is. It's a hilarious book with everything the main character does and it has a good ending.

Finished. Along with finishing an audio book read of Venetia, by Georgette Heyer. Which I very much enjoyed - definitely one of my favourite Heyer's.

Currently reading: Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore - which is quite a departure from my usual books. I usually read the thrillers/mysteries, and just finished David Baldacci's latest: The Escape. Loved it. And I am really enjoying Mr. Penumbra's also -- a mystery without all the murder and mayhem ;-)

Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore is on the short list TBR stack at my house. It came highly recommended and I finally received a copy as a gift. (I'm on a book-buying ban and hadn't managed to get a copy from the library, yet.) I probably won't get around to it until next year.
