Try registering it with Amazon. If it doesn't register, you can't use WinterBreak with it. You can also contact Amazon Support with either the serial number or IMEI number and they can tell you whether it is blacklisted or not.

Stolen or lost are probably the two most common reasons for blacklisting. One friend of mine purchased a Kindle and it didn't arrive after a couple of weeks. He reported this to Amazon and they shipped him a replacement unit. About a week after the replacement arrived, the original Kindle was delivered with no explanation why it had been delayed. Since Amazon had told him not to worry about the original shipment, he opened the box and attempted to register it only to find that it was blacklisted as lost in shipment.

I've got a Kindle Fire gen 1. Super old. The device's store app isn't supported anymore. Downloaded the files onto the device, and I can't move to the next step because of the store app problem. Any solutions or is it just too old?

This is not the forum for Kindle Fire and the nothing here will work on the Kindle Fire. You will have to look in the appropriate forum.

Firmware 5.18.2 has been out for a bit, but I haven't seen any mention on if the jailbreak survives/is recoverable after the update like it is for 5.18.1. I'm not in a hurry to install it since none of the features sound useful to me, but I'd like to know where we're cut off for updates that can keep the jailbreak.

Someone with a jailbroken 5.18.1 device is going to have to update it and see if the jailbreak survives. Are you volunteering?

I upgraded a jailbroken Kindle from 5.18.1 to 5.18.2 and was unable to recover the jailbreak with the hotfix after that. I am far from a jailbreak expert and might easily have done something wrong.

This was done for some packages, but not all. Python is one of the packages which hasn’t been updated for HF. And since the screensaver extension has a dependency on python, it also doesn’t work.

So until a developer releases a HF compatible version of python, not much can be done. If you guys are technically inclined you can try to build it yourself; otherwise for older devices there’s also a possibility to downgrade to 5.16.2.1.1 (the last non-HF firmware) and thus avoid the whole HF issue.

Seems the python extension has been rebuilt for hardfloat firmwares. I'd be happy to rebuild the screensavers hack against this new build and post it here, if there are any instructions out there.

Did you try to run the Run hotfix booklet or did you copy the install.bin to the root of your Kindle and see if Update showed an update found? The second is probably the easiest for Amazon to implement since the real update files are signed.

I tried the bin file and it was not recognized as valid. I thought the booklet had disappeared but was mistaken. I will try it now.

Update: Jailbreak restored using hotfix booklet. So far unable to get usbnetlite to run after re-installing it. (Says sshd down.) Will look into it further.

Hello, please tell me what to do. The device is Kindle PW5. There was firmware 5.16.2.1.1 with Language Break installed, but accidentally had been updated to the latest 5.18.1. Is there a chance to restore jailbreak?
