If OTA binaries were not left in a disabled state and the jailbreak was successfully installed, you should be able to restore the jailbreak by re-installing the hotfix package. You should be able to do this by copying the hotfix package .bin file to the root of your Kindles storage when connected to your computer, safely ejecting and then installing the update from the hamburger menu on the settings page. If that is successful, you should then be able to re-install KUAL and MRPI.

Do you think the jailbreak would "survive" a factory reset + firmware update?

No, JB will definitely NOT survive any of the two factory resets and/or firmware updates in a row.

The jailbreak guide I followed explicitly warned that the otarenamer will survive and might break OTA updates even if you manually updated.

Hi! I have been struggling with this for a couple of hours now. I follow the directions exactly, but when I take my kindle out of airplane mode and look for updates nothing happens - it says I'm current (which I'm not..I saw a couple of other people saying the kindle wasn't even accurately searching for stock updates.)

I have tried multiple times, and tried clearing the contents of the text files in active_content_sandbox per the advice of someone on Reddit. As in, the file names are there but the text contents are gone. This did nothing.

Any advice? this is a Kindle Basic 10th Gen on 5.17.1.0.3

Got my first new Kindle in almost a decade this morning, a brand new Colorsoft Signature, and immediately after sign-in/registration, got an auto-update before I could jb.

Tried 900 things to dodge it, but finally decided I'd let it do the awful. After updating, it's on 5.18.*0*.1! I can winterbreak!

There is still hope! The OOB auto-update doesn't seem to push 5.18.1 yet!

I remember, that I faced the same issue. The solution to me was to replace the files in active_contents_sandbox/resource and start the store immediately. You have to copy it from the JB files. I followed this description https://www.reddit.com/r/kindle/comm...b_doesnt_work/

Hi! Saw this on youtube but I was wondering if it was possible to jailbreak a kindle that's not registred. I got one from my friend once it got some dead pixels and amazon "gave" her a new one. Because she had two, she gave one to me, she did register my account before the device was blocked but I removed it because it was a old email. Now, obviously I can't register it again, it's been a while that I'm using it with calibre but would be really cool if I could jailbreak it and give it more uses...

Winterbreak requires a registered device that is connected to WiFi.

I may be glancing over it, but how can I prevent a Kindle automatically updating when I connect it to WiFi? Assuming I need to keep it beneath 5.18.1
