also I'm wondering does this have anything to do with the fact that I have jailbreak the device before the firmware upgrade kicks in followed by my factory reset?

I wish I knew my friend. I still haven’t been able to successfully get past this step for the first time. I’ve done the steps, plus the troubleshooting, in every configuration I can imagine to get it to work without luck. Dozens of restarts/resets, redownloaded files, tried different wifi networks, turned off two factor authentication, deleted and merged sandbox files, tried doing the steps quickly, and also slowly in case things needed to process in the background, etc. etc. No luck, same amazon store “unexpected error” message over and over again. I think what I’m going to do now is find an older kindle on marketplace or something and see if that works. I’m too stubborn to give up, I’m just out of options with my Oasis 10th gen.

I’ve never gotten this far, but in my reading I’ve come across multiple people mentioning that there’s a step in the process for disabling OTA updates to keep this from occurring.

I recently did the jailbrake following this guide :
https://kindlemodding.org/jailbreaking/WinterBreak/ and did it until the end successfully, but once i installed this packet (by adding the koreader folder dir in the root directory in kindle and added the extension content to the extension folder): koreader-kindlehf-v2024.11-223-g154ec621d_2025-03-03.zip the KOreader options appeared in the kindle but when i tap "Start KOReader" nothing happens. Can someone help? |

Also, disabling the OTA updates actually requires the Kindle to be jailbroken, so it’s not possible to prevent updates until the jailbreak is complete. |

And, you actually have to run the utility and select Rename, which should reboot the Kindle. If you don't run it, or it doesn't reboot, then nothing has changed and OTA is not disabled. Just installing the package is not enough.

I suggest posting in the first post of this thread the correct way to back off from the jailbreak as it seems a lot of people are doing it wrong with a reset that could end up with a brick/doorstop.

One thing to note. You cannot undo the jailbreak because there has been no firmware released for the Colorsoft. So be very very sure you want to jailbreak because you cannot undo it.

As far as KOL is concerned, either the regular one or the “frameworkless” one will work, but I suggest you install the regular one (direct link here.) |

![]() ![]() ![]() I got stuck at the Kindle store too. It always loaded the store instead of the JB HTML file. If I haven't found your post, I never would have thought this was because our internet is too fast! ![]() Blocked ||amazon.com^ with AdguardHome and it worked. I'm going to install the hotfix now. FYI, my model is Oasis 10th gen, firmware 5.14 |

That's not the case for KOL: instead, unpack the .tar.xvf file on your computer and copy the relevant install.bin file to the kindle's mrpackages directory. (Note: I'm not sure what the KOL hotfix file is for...) Then eject and run KUAL -> Helper -> Install MR Packages. For the coverset extension, unzip it in the kindle's extensions directory (or unzip it on your computer and copy the resulting directory). |
