Actually it's not, the Scribe 2024 model is not 2nd gen. It's official title by Amazon is "Kindle Scribe 1st generation - 2024 release". Even the Device info tab on the 2024 Scribe lists Device Type as Kindle Scribe (1st generation, 2024 release). Some reviewers and online articles referred to it as 2nd gen and that's incorrect.

Hello.
I have a Kindle Paperwhite 11th generation, I think you call it PW4, I'm not sure, I bought this one second hand, it's the second one, I was able to register the first one without any problems, but this one doesn't allow me, I think it's because the previous user still has it registered, so I thought about jailbreaking it, the problem I have is that from what I've read in this thread it is necessary to register it to be able to do it, my sw version is 5.17.1, is it possible to use WinterBreak without registration? The guy makes the change of equipment for me so I can register it, but since I'm not going to use Amazon I wanted to save myself the trip. Thanks I'm from Spain and I don't speak English, this text has been translated by Google, sorry if I say something stupid. Thanks |

That is a rather interesting question. WinterBreak does require the device to be registered. If the previous owner still has it registered, that may be good enough for WinterBreak. The other possibility is that you can't register it since it was reported as lost or stolen and it is blacklisted in which case WinterBreak can't be used.
If the screen is 6"/15cm diagonal, it's a PW4 (10th gen) or earlier. If the screen is 6.8"/17.3cm, it would be a PW5 (11th gen) and would have a USB-C port. |

so it's a PW5, the problem is that when they gave it to me I preset it and tried to register it, just like with the previous one, only this one didn't register, I was spreading slander and it may be because the previous owner still has it registered. The seller has a lot of ebooks posted on a famous buying and selling page, I think he buys lots from Amazon or something similar, I doubt they are stolen because it would be so obvious to catch him. https://es.wallapop.com/user/franciscoj-374034600 Can I try it even if I have to (register my Kindle)? If it fails and it doesn't allow me for that reason, can I leave the device as it was given to me? If the process can fail, I can change it for another one and that's it, as this one is in very good condition. Thanks |

@revtup Root folder = top level of "Kindle drive" you see when you connect Kindle to your computer.

With this installed, is it possible to delete more optional components like the dictionary in order to increase the available amount of free space?
I'm thinking of a 4GB model which seems to have 3GB available so every megabyte counts. |

I have spoken to Amazon and they tell me that my Kindle is blacklisted, that it was an Amazon package that did not arrive at its destination and the money was returned to the customer, it was missing in Canada. It is excellent that these devices cannot be jailbroken and that they are so limited, I think the seller is being honest and as he told me from the beginning they are Amazon returns, but in any case I have reported the case and will return the device. Thank you for your help, in any case, I will buy another one to jailbreak and continue with my adventures. |

If I only want to downgrade the firmware, can I skip post-jailbreak process?
I am currently using Kindle Scribe 2022 (firmware 5.17.2) not jailbroken.
All I want to do is to downgrade the firmware. In this case, can I skip the post-jailbreak process (install hotfix, install KUAL and MRPI, etc.) after winterbreak and try downgrading? After the firmware downgrade is complete, can I just do a factory reset to go back to the state before the jailbreak? Last edited by beecom; 02-04-2025 at 12:05 AM. |

Hello,
I tried to jailbreak using the old LanguageBreak-16.11.23 method. Something wasn’t working, and I discovered WinterBreak. I followed the procedure, and when I got to configuring the Update_hotfix_universal.bin patch and updating, I noticed the update button was grayed out. Thinking about it, I realized that before my last reset, I must have disabled OTA updates. So I started following the procedure here: https://kindlemodding.org/jailbreaki...m-a-reset.html I installed KUAL and then renameOTAbin, but unfortunately, after performing the restore, the update button remains grayed out. Does anyone have any ideas, please? |

Then the easiest way to downgrade is through a KUAL extension, which requires MRPI and KUAL to be installed. However there is also a scriptlet to do just that available on the Discord (see the invite link in HackerDude's signature in the first post of this thread). Scriptlets can be run directly from the Kindle library, and do not require installing KUAL or MRPI so if you go this route those steps could probably be skipped. To completely remove the jailbreak you have to reinstall the official firmware you're downgrading to twice, without running the hotfix between the installs. Just keep in mind that some files might be left over in the root of your Kindle - a reset does not reformat the storage. |
