I know how you feel... I use that hack and it helps me enjoy my kindle so much more. I mostly read at work and before this timeout hack my kindle was constantly going to sleep when I would get busy on another task. Now I have it set to the hacks default of sixty minutes and it works so much better.

Praise to this great thread!
There's a mirror with instructions for the old version here:

I haven't seen NiLuJe (poster of SS hack) at all recently; maybe he's busy or something.

Maybe he's taking a well deserved vacation. He spends a lot of time here.

Hi all, I've been a lurker on this forum for a few months now. Santa was kind enough to deliver a new Kindle to myself as well as one for my wife this past Christmas. Tonight I just did the Jailbreak and SS/Font hacks. Now I have jailbroken other electronic devices in the past, and i must say these were the easiest hacks I have ever performed. Thank you for the great tutorial that made these hacks almost foolproof!. I look forward to talking to all of you on the forums in the coming days. Happy New Year to all!

I just installed the jailbreak and the screensaver hack following this with no errors the kindle updated and rebooted, however, I still have the dead poets society as my screensaver. How do I check if the jailbreak worked ??

Some extra details:
I have a B00A kindle so I used the 0.4.N_k3gb_install.bin, my software is 3.0.2 (529960105), I put the file in root and choose update, it rebooted nicely and then I did the same with the SS. Also it does not reboot when i put a blank reboot file in linkss

Redid it with wireless turned of and it worked, got the delete me screensaver (almost wanna keep it, it is nice) still no reboot with reboot file.

I have the Kindle 3 WiFi. I actually finally figured out what I was doing. I kept all the Hacking files and used the matching uninstaller. . or so I thought. I went into the src folder and used the uninstaller in it before I spotted the "updated" one in the main folder. I was successful in uninstalling the screensaver hack. At least I was given the "update" option on my Kindlle.

I did back up the Kindle both before and after I used the hack so I have both saved. I'm just unsure about the folders that remained on the Kindle after I uninstalled the hack and jailbreak? Any ideas? I haven't "restored to factory settings" until I get the replacement Kindle setup and am ready to send this one back.

Thanks for you help and suggestions.

This is surprising, does anyone know if this is still Amazon's attitude? I plan to do the screensaver hack.

Error in installing the font hack

Hi NuLuJe,
Thanks a lot for the hucks. I need some help /advice.
After I installed font huck on my Kindle DXG 2.5.5, I was disappointed with the fonts, tried some other fonts, and eventually, unstalled the huck, in order to return to the original fonts.Till now everything went well, while after unistall I still have
linkfonts directory on my device.

After a while I decided to try DeJaVu fonts ( [I'm installing an alternative set of fonts for the Unicode support), and tried to install the huck again.

I got 003 error message and when pressed R 4, as the message adviced to do, the device rebooted and everything works well.

I still see the original fonts. Any attempt to remove "auto" file from the directory causes rebooting of the device every time I turn it on.
Seems the huck is in the active state. At the font directory I have the sets of Caecilia*, Helvetica*, Kindle* and your standart set if Mono*,Sans* and Serif*.

My questions -

1) What is my state now - with the huck or without?
2) how may I return [safely] to the font substituion?

Thanks,
BoKa

First line is a bit truncated

@NiLuJe

I've tried kindle-fonts-3.9.N-k3.zip & kindle-fonts-4.2.N-k3.zip and both version have the same issue while displaying chinese text:

The first line is a bit truncated. I attach two screenshots for your reference.

Is there any way to fix this?

I'll use my first post to say thank you for making this so easy! It took me all of 10 minutes to change my screen savers...fast, easy and now I have the Kindle I want, not one that looks like everyone elses!

I now have personalized screensavers with family photos that I've edited to include my contact information, in case I lose my Kindle and by a miracle the person who finds it is honest enough to want to return it. But just in case they aren't, is there a way to password-protect the screensaver folder so that it can't be changed and the finder and his/her friends will be constantly reminded of their dishonesty? Thanks

Hi Everyone!

I just purchased a DX for my b-day and installed the screensaver hack per the instructions. Everything seemed to go well as it installed the files. However when I turn off the device the standard screensaver pics still show... What gives?

NVM I got it... :-) Turns out you need to drag the Lynkss folder over with the second install...

I installed the latest screensaver hack on my kindle 3 running 3.0.3 firmware. It works, but I can't add new screensavers by dropping in a blank reboot file in the linkss folder. Also, I added a blank random file to the linkss folder, but my screensavers aren't randomized. So far, the only way I can add new screensavers is by uninstalling the screensaver hack and then reinstalling it. Furthermore, after jailbreaking my kindle and installing the screensaver hack, my kindle has started running slower.

Restart your Kindle after you add the files.
