@ihab7000: FW 3.0.3 == Kindle 3.
As for Arabic scripts, I'm not sure there's anything we can do about it, I don't think there's real RTL support in the Kindle software (On the reader. The browser, on the other hand, is using ft+fc+cairo+pango, so it should potentially be able to handle pretty much anything you throw at it). Last edited by NiLuJe; 11-13-2010 at 11:31 PM. |

I've got a wireless Kindle version 3.0.2 in the UK and the 3w screensaver bin file allows me to start the update (its not dimmed out) but it fails. Is there a different version I need for the UK?

@Drusy: Did you run the jailbreak update first?

Jailbreak again?
I've already jailbroken my Kindle 3.0.2 with Jailbreak 0.3. Is there any reason to jailbreak again with 0.4? I've read the changelogs on the update to 0.4, but once I'm jailbroken I'm jailbroken, right? Or should I update? I have the 3.0.3 file from Amazon and was planning to update but wanted to be sure before I did.

@drewperry: Nope, no need. Once you're jailbroken, it's done

Update time!
Bump ScreenSavers to v0.17.N: * Fixed a confusing install log message. * Updated sort binary (updated coreutils) Bump Fonts to v0.4.1.N: * Tiny code cleanup * Fixed the browser on FW 3.x when using an FT override. * Added the 'light' FT override setting Bump SSTimeOut to v0.02.N: * FW 3.x support. In short: * Nothing really interesting on the screensaver front. * A shiny bugfix on the Fonts front, for those who prefer reading webpages with actual non-invisible text in them ![]() * And an update to the screensavers timeout hack, that *should* now work on FW 3.x. (I haven't actually tested this, but it should work just fine ![]() |

Greetings from China
![]() I didn't quite like the default font for displaying Chinese characters on my Kindle 3 and then I found the way to hack it here. Thank you NiLuJe! It really works! Question: If I install Amazon's official firmware update on my Kindle, will it wipe out my font settings? |

WOW NiLuJe, I was not expecting a 'fix' for the non-visible text browser issue...and while no clue how long it took you to produce a 'fix'...it only took me a few seconds to drop the new font bin update in the Kindle root directory, eject and do the home/menu/settings/menu/update...and the text is now visible on the browser. Well done!
Thank you once again, Dusty Star |

Could you explain how the SSTimeout works? In the source file, it states 3600 = 1 hour, but how can I customize that value? Upon installing the hack, I get a file in my /mnt/us/sstimeout/ folder called t1_timeout that says:
RG002 40 <DATA> 600 How would I modify that to make the screensaver trigger after say, 15 minutes? |

@Dusty Star: Well, I took the easy & safest road (ie. the browser uses the default system rendering), and after trying a few overly complicated ideas, it turns out it was pretty simple to do
![]() @kranu: There's a readme in the zip. Read it ![]() The file in sstimeout is a backup, you can only change the real setting via the hack installation process. (There's an example config file bundled with the hack (in the src folder). Set it to 900, drop it at the root with the .bin, and reinstall the hack for a 15min timeout. By default, the hack uses a 1h (!) timeout). Last edited by NiLuJe; 11-17-2010 at 02:39 AM. |

I think I am in deep doo here. OK so I jailbreak it. Fine. Then add some screen savers and that goes fine. Then add the font link. That goes great too. Then I change the fonts to the one I like using the link provided. Fine. Kindle restarts the little bar moves. When it gets to the end it stops and I am stuck looking at the Amazon Kindle tree screen. A hard restart does the same thing. Did I just brick my Kindle?
EDIT:: OK so I was able to reset factory settings by holding down the "Home" button upon the restart screen. I guess I will just stick with the screen savers. I really liked that font though. Made me feel more like I was reading a real book. ![]() Last edited by Devisissy; 11-17-2010 at 11:20 AM. |

@Devisissy: Nope, you just have one on the fussy Kindles.
Two solutions (to make it work, instead of disabling the hack): * Use other fonts. * Use one of the new autohint/bci setting (and restart). |
