Would it be appropriate to get the Title of this thread changed to a more generic one including the newer Kindle 3? Right now the thread seems limited:

That would definitely make sense.

Update failed and not able to uninstall
Hi!
I own a brand new kindle 3 wifi only Modell number D00901. I applied the update for k3 (update_ss_0.15.N_k3w_install.bin) and it installed successfully. But nothing changed. No new folders or anything. So I tried to remove the update but this failed. Any idea? Is my kindle too new? Or do I have to jailbreak it before I apply the ss hack? |

First, after I installed ss hack and then put a blank file named "reboot" under linkss folder, autoreboot didn't work.
Then I had to manually restart k3w, however, I found that customized ss never showed up. And original ss were still over there instead. I double-checked \linkss\screensavers\, there're only my customized ss files, so the result looked like hack didn't work out. I'm using k3w with firmware 3.0.2 btw, font hack worked quite well, thx |

@fifth: If you have both ss & fonts hack installed, use the autoreboot from the fonts hack, the ss one will be disabled.
If you still only see the default screensaver after a full restart, you probably missed something simple (ie. wrong folder, the hack isn't actually installed or enabled, wrong file types, ...). Last edited by NiLuJe; 10-30-2010 at 02:55 PM. |

@NiLuJe
I did another uninstall, manually removed remained linkss folder, and reinstall, it finally worked. Thx!!! Another 2 questions, 1. how could I know if hack is successfully installed without visually checking it? 2. do I have to reboot k3 every time I add some new customized ss? |

From what I've seen, you do have to reboot (restart) the kindle to see any new screensavers you have installed. |

@fifth:
* You can check the syslogs. * Yes, you have to at least restart the framework (ie. use the autoreboot feature) ![]() |

I wish I knew why my K2 font hack works fabulous (Big 125%) and the K3 some of the font sets works where we read the book text...but I cannot get the home/menu text bold or larger. On the K2 the home/menu text is awesome. None of the Big font packages works on the B006...get blank screen.

@Dusty Star: Yeah, I haven't gotten around to tweaking the Big sets for the K3 yet... But I suspect it's basically the same issue some K3 seems to be having with a few fonts... I'm hoping a bit of tweaking will help, but since I can't reproduce the issue, it's a bit of a shot in the dark.

I just got my Kindle 3 yesterday and hate the lame screen savers on it... As I am not a tech guru I do know how to edit reg. and stuff like that and have hacked many windows based phones with custom roms.. But anyways I downloaded and installed 3.0.3 update then I downloaded and installed Jailbreak and SS crack I have a wifi only model and I put the install jailbreak k3w on and went to settings and updated kindle and it rebooted no errors and then I did a reboot again then I installed the ss install k3w and rebooted it and I see no folder on the kindle... I followed the steps exactly on the read me file in the download... I did a hard reset and restored it to factory default do I have to start over? Do I need to run uninstall on Jailbreak? I installed both files into the root directory..I seen somewhere about creating a blank folder do I need to do that too get SS to work? I am a Mason and have some nice masonic screen savers I would love to use...

My Kindle is an 3rd gen (Wifi) and updated to v3.0.3 firmware, jail-broke and installed with Font hack kindle-fonts-3.9.N-k3 (update_fonts_3.9.N_k3w_install.bin). Everything went smoothly until I decided to use Droid_Sans-PKG.zip from here https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...&postcount=767. I use Update Your Kindle with this file, and after rebooting, the Kindle homepage is invisible and the menu is acting funny: the menu doesnt disappear after selection or select but nothing happen/no response.
Moreover, I cannot use the Update Your Kindle in Settings anymore. It just flash a little bit, and nothing happened. Fortuanately, I can still select, load the book and read the book content. But the homepage is truly broken: invisible, no respone to menu selection, only selecting books is available. I did put the associated uninstall bin font hack into root, and restart, but the update say there's error (code is 3). When I put the original firmware 3.0.3, it even doesnt show the update progress, just reboot and everything stays the same. Any idea or suggestion to fix this is appreciated ![]() EDIT: I fixed it. I managed to update using the uninstall bin font hack. Seems the K3 isn't compatible with Droid_Sans font. Last edited by warl0rd; 11-02-2010 at 06:19 AM. |
