There are so many questions about the Networking hack. I think it would help tremendously if somebody would bring all the information together and write a Wiki about that.

What's in the readme should be enough.
I've already said it, and it might sound harsh, but there it is, but if one can't get it to work with what's out there, it probably means one shouldn't be using it in the first place. It is *NOT* a hack one should use lightly, and without an at least basic understanding of Linux CLI system admin. Trying to introduce people to that on a semi-closed embedded consumer device is a recipe for disaster. By doing this, I'm only trying to avoid people bricking/messing their Kindle up because they didn't really know what they were doing. Look at the number of people who fiddled with their iptables settings without backups only to get bitten in the ass with the 3.0.3 update... And that's a pretty mild example. Any hack can be dangerous Anyway i have read this post and this i have did all step without any mistake But i still have problem i have used old version of hack and my Kindle works as usb adapter but no data send or receive and Wireless wants to be on again. When i restrat it The computer shows usb adapter again and it doesn't convert to usb mass storage But i use two last line of that post and it returns to usb mass storage again. For updating screen savers, if I put a blank reboot file in the linkss folder, will this cause a reboot every time I unplug from the computer? Or only if I update the sceensavers folder?
Thanks. |

Re: usbnet docs: Granted, the actual readme is a bit crappy, I'll clean it up a bit.

Bump USBNet to v0.28.N:
* Cleanup the tethering scripts a bit. Log to syslog, and possibly do something useful on a K3 (untested). * And port that to the uninstall script, so that it doesn't horribly die on a K3. * Cleanup & rewrite the Readme. ----^ Look! Proper readme! Last edited by NiLuJe; 10-25-2010 at 04:53 PM. |

@farleylai: No idea. I thought periodical handling wasn't any different than a regular book to the reader, so that's weird. Unless it isn't properly encoded in UTF-8.

Maybe the reason for this is that Kindle seems not to render the title with two or more fonts or non-Latin glyphs in bold or italic form. ![]() |

@farleylai: Yep, probably... So short of using a Serif_* family supporting the language you need, I don't see how you could 'fix' that

Hi NiLuJe, just finished to install the Jailbreak + Fonts Hack on my K3 3G. All worked perfectly, thank you so much, now my wife can read her chinese books
![]() But...on this wiki page Kindle Font Hack for all 2.x and 3.x Kindles somebody says that the UK + Europe version has a serial number with B00A. I bought mine by an authorized reseller in Switzerland and the serial number is B006*. So, probably not all the resellers sells the "european" version, always take care and double check the serial number. Using the files built for the US version (B006) worked perfectly. I write this post, just to warn future users to follow the serial number and not the country where they bought the kindle... Again, many many thanks! |

@essebibi: Yes, I'm aware of that, I actually also have a B006 in Europe
![]() I missed the edit that changed this particular description though, it's fixed now ![]() @farleylai: Scratch my previous answers, the reader indeed seems to be doing things differently on the 'sections' listview, at least with calibre newsfeed. It misses curly quotes with a custom font here (Latin Serif only, no CJK stuff), for example... o_O Last edited by NiLuJe; 10-29-2010 at 03:44 AM. |
