Adding a font to the availabel fonts

NiLuJe,

Can the Helvetica BL (bold large) font from TedSans original K2us 2.3.3 list be incorporated into the available fonts for 2.3.x? Can I do it myself? Would you be so kind as to give me instructions (or feel free to go ahead and add it <he he>). I've attached the original 2.3.3 version of the .bin file from TedSan's site if that helps. Thanks.

Thanks a lot NiLuJe! The update worked fine on my Kindle3 3G International. 3G internet access still works Custom screensaver makes the device feel much more like my book.

@csaket: No idea how well pure OpenType features are handled. And I can't really test this, since I have no idea how this kind of script is supposed to look like . You're welcome to try though .

Well, it was worth a try. Thanks anyway. That all seems to complicated for me to handle.

Technically, we can't redistribute this particular font since it's a commercial font (that's why the other helvetica package, among others, has been pulled from this thread) .

None of these hacks allow you to have the book cover as screensaver, correct? Is there any way to do this?

Is that why Georgia 2 is missing? If I wanted to, ahem, search for it, I'm a bit confused as to what I do with it if and when I find it. For example, I found and downloaded a Georgia.ttf file, but it's intended for installation of the font on my Windows computer. Am I looking for something else, or do I just need to do something with this file that I haven't figured out?

Thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide.

And congrats on the hack!

Book Jacket as Screensaver

The screensaver hack, with a bit of extra work, will let you do it.

Go to Google Images and search for your book cover -- e.g., "Dune Book Cover"

Scroll through the resulting images and save (right click, usually) the one that is most detailed/has the highest pixel count

Open it in a photo editor and resize to 600 x 800. Save as a .JPG. You can do this for free in Picasa 3.8, which now comes with Picnik as an editor.

Move it to the screensaver folder of your Kindle. Delete (or move to another "pending" folder, so you can restore them later) all the other images in this folder, so that, each time you put your Kindle to sleep, this book jacket shows up as the screensaver.

Restart (NOT update) your Kindle.

If you're reading more than one book at a time, repeat all of the above (but you will have to wake and put your Kindle to sleep a number of times to cycle through the book cover images if you care about getting the right one).

Hope that helps.

@rogerinnyc: This and that should cover everything .

@lunixer: Not automatically no. (See this thread for more details. But basically, if it's possible at all, it's a fair bit more complex than what we do now).

I've downloaded and applied the Font Hack (already have the SS hack) and now have copied over the appropriate Fontin files to the folder.

The fonts were applied even before I did a restart - great I thought. The home page list looks great and when you go into the book it is in my preferred Fontin font.

Only gremlin is - the title bar (which disappears after you press the page forward) is missing odd letters in each book.

When I went to the Settings menu to do a restart, lots of characters were missing here as well, as well as missing characters in the title bar (screen grab attached, same scenario in a book).

A Restart has sorted this problem out but I just thought I'd highlight it as before, on my K2i, the font changes weren't applied at all until I did a restart. For some reason on the K3 the changes seem partially applied so you could think it is working when actually you need to make sure you do the Restart.
