I didn't put the random file back in the linkss folder after installing the new hack. I had done it previously and then installed the .13 hack over the top of that.

@911jason: That's it. It's not removed when you install (or when you uninstall, for that matter) the hack, so it's still there, and your scrensavers are still randomized
![]() @all: Hurray. Fonts v3.8.N. K3 support! I advise those especially interested to tweak the International fonts, and the browser fonts to read the first post, a few things have changed ![]() Namely: * The K3 renderer uses TrueType bytecode hinting instructions. Fonts that have nice hinting instructions will look very sharp, while fonts with no/crappy bytecode will look fuzzy, especially at small sizes. The upside is that, finally, full Serif fonts can look fantastic, provided they've got good hinting code. * The K3 uses a bunch of auxilliary fonts for CJK/International scripts. I simplified this a bit. There's two new custom fonts: CJK.ttf: For Chinese/Japanese/Korean (Droid Fallback by default) I18N.ttf: Everything else (DejaVu Sans by default) * The browser uses fontconfig to pick the fonts. For those familiar with it, you know it uses a very powerful XML config, and uses a cache of available fonts to speed things up. While the config part of things is not such a problem for us, the cache is. On the tiny Kindle CPU, it takes approximately 5 minutes to regenerate this cache! Because of this, handling the browser fonts is disabled by default. Check the first post if you want to try it (it works, it just takes a crapload of time each time you switch fonts ^^). EDIT: And MR Wiki updated. (Without the nobrowser spiel, to avoid being way too confusing) P.S @mods: Would it be possible to change the title of the thread to "Fonts & ScreenSavers hacks for Kindle 2.x & 3.x" please? Thanks! Wait does the randomiser just shuffle them once?
Also, wahoo for the font hack! Are all the fonts listed on the wiki properly hinted? Or have you not tried them all yet? |

Thanks for all of these hacks! I just found them but I'll probably try the font one tomorrow. I am in love with Calibri. The one hack that I am still looking for though is the ability to use the book cover as the screensaver. Probably impossible, but I want it so much.

My head hurts too much at the moment to try out the new fonts, (and it isnt even a hangover one) but
![]() What is your day job NiLuJe? Programming? Or is this just fun for you to do? And your nick - where does that spring from? Last edited by Pushka; 09-22-2010 at 12:49 AM. |

With your font hack Chinese displays now perfectly on a Kindle 3.
Converted chinese epubs, the book titles and even the speech marks " are shown correctly. Thank you so much NiLuJe !!! Amazon and the world owes you so much, because now you perfected their Kindles. Shame on Amazon for delivering such defective software and highest respect for NiLuJe for fixing all this professionally. Last edited by richardb; 09-22-2010 at 06:12 AM. |

@flandroid: Nope, it shuffles at every boot
![]() As for the fonts packages, other than those using DejaVu/Droid, those I converted myself have no hinting instructions at all. They'll look fuzzy as hell. I'm currently trying some things to see if I can make some of them somewhat usable on K3 ![]() But DejaVu & Droid are very sharp ![]() @richardb: Is that with the default font set? If it is, that's good to know, thanks! ![]() @Pushka: Nope, I'm just a lowly student ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I think I've come to the conclusion that neither of the Fontin fonts works on K3 (of course it's probably just me
![]() I've used this font on my K2 and 505 with no problems but just can't get it to work with K3. I had to a 4th factory reset. ![]() |

That's a pity. I've done the SS hack to my K3, but not the font hack yet. I had the Fontin fonts on my K2i and DX though so they would be nice on the K3. I wonder why they don't work?

@flandroid: Yep, it's hit & miss. I'll probably end up mixing hinted & unhinted fonts, if at least the Serif_Regular is okay hinted without too much tweaking.
@daffy4u: Huh. I'll try this one as my next set... |

Well, here's a good news: OTF Type 1/2 (CFF) fonts seem to work fine, fully hinted! Yay'!
