I hope Amazon would not close ~exec door too soon.

I wonder how much font structures are changed due to CJK and Cyrillic support in Kindle3
Are we getting some 20 to 40 megabytes sized TTFs?

The basic fonts (Caecilia, Helvetica, Mono) are actually even smaller in size (must have used a different font editing software). But they added a few huge CJK fonts.

Quick question to our UK users:

What's the S/N of the two new K3 models in the UK?

Huh.

Attach your doc here & make sure you're really using the DroidFallback fonts.

Here it is. There are only two charaters.

I used Sans_Fallback, not DroidFallback. Any difference?

Then you're probably not really using the Droid Sans Fallback font set, because they do handle these characters .

(Also, not sure if the UTF-8 BOM plays nice with the Kindle reader, but it shouldn't hurt. At worst you'll see something weird as the first char. But just note that UTF-8 BOM is EVIL! ).

Also, not sure which font is used when you drop a .txt file on your Kindle, but I seem to remember it being the Sans Mono, not Serif or Sans, which might explain why it's not working, depending on how/which fonts you installed exactly. Convert it to MOBI.

Device: Kindle DX Graphite
Chinese font for KDX Graphite

I bought Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation, and I've been told Kindle (Latest Generation) can display Cyrillic such as Russian, Japanese, Chinese Traditional and Simplified, and Korean characters in addition to Latin and Greek scripts for certain file types.

When I visit Chinese website, for example Chinese Wikipedia, I can only see blocks, and the font didn't display correctly at all.

Any suggestions?

If I install these hack, will that invalid my warranty?

Cheers.

The K DXG != K3, so, no, the default fonts aren't CJK aware .

But, yes, with this hack and a CJK font, that would work. As for the warranty, I've never heard of anyone having an issue, even without (!!) removing the hacks before, but as always, I can't make any promises, so YMMV.

Hi NiLuJe,

It is shame the latest DX do not support CJK!

I downloaded the kindle-2.5-fonts-3.7.N and copied update_fonts_3.7.N_dxg_install.bin/_uninstall.bin files to my K DX. After a restart, I've got an message told me the software update failed.

I am already using Kindle 2.5.5, how can I let my KDX read Chinese fonts?

It would be really nice if you can include the any download links.

Thank you

Make sure you installed the jail-break first.

Hi DiapDealer, I copied update_jailbreak_dx_install.bin to my Kindle DX and then restarted. I then copied update_fonts_3.7.N_dx_install.bin to Kindle DX too. After restart I found the Chinese still shown as blocks.

The upgrade option was faded, I guess that's because my firmware is already version 2.5.

How can I make my Kindle DX read Chinese?

DX != DXi != DXg. Please be consistent/precise. 'Latest' is pretty vague, but I assumed it meant DXg, because, as of right now, that's what 'latest' means, for a K DX at least. And now you're just saying DX, which means an older, white DX (US, Sprint).

Also, read the first post.

I'm not sure what you tried to do/actually did.

What I can tell you from your reply is that you tried to restart your Kindle DX(i? g?) with a custom .bin in the root folder. Which is BAD.

If the 'Update Your Kindle' link is grayed-out, it's because you're not using the right .bin for your Kindle model, we don't care about the current FW version.

And even once the hack is successfully installed, you'll need a set of CJK fonts. The Droid Fallback set has been posted here somewhere, check the attachment page of this thread.

Hi NiLuJe

Thank You! I think I used the wrong font set. I now get it working!

However, now I face another problem. I loaded a chinese book in TXT format. I can open the book (took a while), but it won't turn the page. The file is pretty big, over 2MB.
I then managed to restart the Kindle (slide the slide at the top for a long time). I was worried and deleted the file.
I then just created a new TXT file with only 5 pages of the same book.
I could open the book, could see the first page (took a while to open again), but it took a minute to turn the page. Then it kind of hang.
Is this normal? How can I actually read a chinese document then?

Also, do you happen to know how to convert .pdb files (in chinese) to a format readable by Kindle i2?

Thank you so much. You have been wonderful.
