To install the "kindle pdfviewer" i need to use the commands above after install jailbreak to run the script. shift+shift+i shift+shift+space shift+P+D But now dont work, it isnt from jailbreak? About the launcher, i dont install it other time, just the jailbreak and copy the zip file of pdfviewer in a folder. Last edited by Fred Vargas; 09-11-2012 at 04:22 PM. |

@Fred Vargas: Yes, that's a launcher (probably launchpad [or kite]), not the jailbreak. The factory reset nuked it.

Info dump re: KF8 with custom fonts:
* Metadata needs to be consistent (Family, weight, style needs to match what the file says: I've had fontconfig matching a bold font as the regular because of messed up metadata, for example. Regular weight is 400 (Book) or 500 (Medium).). * webreaderd seems to be happy with my custom ft lib, but I didn't test a whole lot of fonts * Building fontconfig's cache takes a shitload of time on the K3 tiny CPU. * A few KF8 books don't want to switch font families (stuck on serif)... (Also, I'm pretty sure it worked before I tweaked my fonts... >_<") Last edited by NiLuJe; 09-11-2012 at 08:33 PM. |

The packages have been refreshed to be 3.4 friendly (for the fonts hack), and K4 2K12 friendly.
The proper full new release will happen next week, this is just to make sure the files available are working on the latest firmwares/devices for new users. Existing users should wait for the proper release to update, unless they want to play with custom fonts in KF8 files on the K3 ![]() Ping me if the k4 packages broke for the 'old' K4 ![]() (Also, the K4 fonts hack is/will be out of beta). Ooookay... I installed the updated one. (It was a fresh 3.4)
Now I cant access the settings menu. I click it and nothing happens? So I cant uninstall.. Anyone know of an equivalent of this: [root@kindle root]# lipc-set-prop com.lab126.ota startUpdate 1 for the 3? [root@kindle root]# dbus-send --system /default com.lab126.ota.startUpdate int32:1; Clearly doesn't work... I should ;dumpMessages I suppose.. |

@twobob: What did you install, exactly?
Given the symptoms, I'm guessing the fonts hack, but, still ^^. Anyway, in case of the fonts hack, it's a known (very weird, but known) issue with some fonts/kindles/phase of the moon combinations. Either use another font (probably one in the Sans family, if the menu is blank), or enable one of the FT override (drop a blank 'bci' file in linkfonts, unplug & eject, and do a soft reboot if possible, if not, a hard one). EDIT: Or, since you have a shell available: Code:
/etc/init.d/framework stop /etc/init.d/browserd stop /etc/init.d/webreaderd stop /mnt/us/linkfonts/bin/unlinkfonts touch /mnt/us/linkfonts/bci /mnt/us/linkfonts/bin/linkfonts /etc/init.d/webreaderd start /etc/init.d/browserd start /etc/init.d/framework start Last edited by NiLuJe; 09-12-2012 at 10:59 PM. |

*yay, not borked!* LARGE LOVE FOR YOU.
I was just about to wipe it again. *does happy face* And incredibly. it wasn't until I zoomed the "Font Info spoiler" text LARGE that my mind didn't skip over the "It may not show your settings page"... The thing I was looking for last night. bah. I've re-read the fonts "description" again. in full. for the third time. Still obviously need to play around a bit more to figure out what everything actually does. My instinct? It's not broken now, stop fixing it. Thanks mate Last edited by twobob; 09-13-2012 at 06:21 AM. Reason: finally my mind processes the "small print" |

NiLuJe - the last time I did a SS hack was with version 0.14. Noticed that the SS hack is up to version 0.27. What is the best way to update my SS hack.
In addition, wanted to add the Font Hack also. Some guidance would be greatly appreciated. I feel like the answer is on the first page but just can't make sense of it. Thanks again! |

I know this probably sounds like a silly question but... unless there is some function (like err shuffle or something) that I am missing. I think the SS hack is pretty much as it was back then.
Re the fonts hack. grab the zip (you have a 3, so the "3" one), match it to your kindles serial number (as always) and dump the right update in /mnt/us Then MENU -> SETTINGS -> MENU -> UPDATE ME!!! wait a spell, should be good. HTH |

1. SS 0.27 not that different from SS 0.14 so do nothing 2. On the font hack, find the bin that matches my Kindle Serial Number, place on root of Kindle and menu>settings>menu>Update. That's it? Right? |

@chilady1: The full ChangeLog is hidden in a spoiler in the first post, but, basically, yes, that's awfully old, you probably should update, just to avoid hitting weird old bugs
![]() One small caveat: If you updated your Kindle since, and it's something more recent than 3.2.1, you'll probably have to update the jailbreak first. (And yes, in this case, you'll have to uninstall it first [use the uninstaller from the latest version]). As for the fonts hack: Do read the small print in the first post, it's not necessarily the most user-friendly thing in the word, and it can badly bite you in the ass on some configurations. The most important thing to remember might be to disable any password/parental control features you might have enabled before trying it: that should help avoiding resorting to a hard factory reset in case of troubles. |

Thanks NiLuJe -
I am using the update jailbreak 0.10N k3g uninstall.bin per your instructions (which is from the latest jailbreak package) to uninstall the jailbreak and start from scratch. My FW is ver 3.4. When I place the bin file on my Kindle (which is B006, K3 WiFi) - the Update Kindle button is greyed out. Help! __________________________________________________ __________________________ NEVERMIND - got it. I am hacking two different Kindles - one 3G + WiFi and one just WiFi, figured it out. It helps to use the right file - DUH! Last edited by chilady1; 09-13-2012 at 10:01 PM. |

@chilady1: Means you're using the wrong file for your Kindle model.
B008 is the WiFi only Kindle (k3w here). B006 is the US 3G Kindle (k3g) B00A is the UK/Europe 3G Kindle (k3gb) |

It's all GOOD now - including the fonts. I was being stupid basically and working with 2 Kindles forgot which one was which. As always, thanks for your help NiLuJe and the VERY QUICK responses.
