Here's a small teaser of USBNet's next build...
Yup, that's OpenSSH instead of dropbear! \o/ Why? Because it doesn't take eleventy-billion seconds to login, like dropbear and its infamous libtom{math,crypt} regression! (And the binary is only like ~100KB bigger, and the memory footprint is negligible (a bit over ~4MB vs. ~2MB). The only downside is on the K4/K5, where the binary takes a huge size hit because I link OpenSSL statically to avoid the 0.9.8 -> 1.0.0 russian roulette of the K5 FW versions ![]() And if you really like dropbear, it's still the default anyway, you'll have to ask for OpenSSH in the config ![]() Probably gonna be released tomorrow, I'm bushed right now, and the final binaries are still building... GCC's LTO takes a ginormous amount of time (basically, twice as much as a classic build). Last edited by NiLuJe; 06-18-2012 at 10:14 AM. |

And here we go! USBNetwork v0.39.N
![]() * OpenSSH support, woohoo! So, a bit more info on OpenSSH: To enable it, just set USE_OPENSSH to true in the config file (usbnet/etc/config), and restart your Kindle. And you'll then be able to enjoy: Code:
- Real: 0.28s User: 0.01s System: 0.00s Percent: 3% Cmd: ssh root@kindle true MajFault: 0 VolContSw: 16 InvContSw: 1 - Code:
- Real: 2.18s User: 0.01s System: 0.00s Percent: 0% Cmd: ssh root@kindle true MajFault: 0 VolContSw: 17 InvContSw: 2 - ![]() (I was speaking about LTO yesterday, but it's apparently not as stable as I expected, it broke (at least) OpenSSH's sshd, so, no LTO for now ![]() Last edited by NiLuJe; 06-18-2012 at 12:38 PM. |

I don't understand, is Screensaver Hack from the first post work for Kindle NT firm. 4.1.0?
I don't see any posts and people confirming this... |

@lega4: Theoretically, yes, but I don't have a K4, hence the untested/beta warning

NiLuJe ...
Its been 2.5 years since I bought my first Kindle (K2i) and found this thread and all the work you have done. Since then I haven't had a single need to change anything on my Kindle, and I have been happy with the Museo Slab 500 font (free version - curtesy of myfonts.com). I've had my K3w for a week now and turned to this thread to again start hacking. Jailbreak and hacks worked fine ofcourse, but had to start using the fontpackager due to the "weird" issues. Alas, my Museo Slab 500 was fuzzy (it was a slightly modified version, whereby I slightly altered about 30/52 of the standard letter glyphs with fontlab hehehe)... I was devastated. Having read a post by you regarding fonts without the hack, I came across you mentioning Droid Serif as a font that works amazingly on the K3. Wow!!! I don't miss Museo anymore. Getting to the point... THANK YOU SO MUCH !!! for your continuing hard work, and your devotion to the Kindle community and everything Kindle. |

@anywho: I'm guessing you're on a recent FW version, and thus used the wrong update file.

With the font hack installed, and several fonts installed, how do I actually chose which font to use when I read a book? (I read the whole section on the font-hack. hopefully I didn't miss something obvious again :/)

@anywho: The mobi reader uses the Serif family by default. You can't switch to a different font for a specific family without restarting the framework. So just make sure the Serif_* font files are the one you want to use

root directory?
Leave the directory alone, and upload the correct update_*_install.bin file for your kindle & FW version to the root directory of your Kindle.
(As always, k2 means K2 US, k2i means K2 GW, dx means KDX US, dxi means KDX GW, dxg means KDX Graphite, k3g means K3 3G (US [B006]), k3w means K3 WiFi [B008], k3gb means K3 3G (UK [B00A]) and k4 means K4 [B00E]. The ones suffixed by -3.2.1 are meant for devices running FW >= 3.2.1 *only*!). For a Kindle 2 International, that would be update_jailbreak_0.10.N_k2i_install.bin for example. When you say ROOT DIRECTORY, is that where the DOCUMENTS, AUDIBLE, MUSIC and .ACTIVE-CONTENT-DATA folders are? I just put it in there? I have a Kindle Keyboard wifi (B008) with FW 3.3 (611680021)so i'll use the update_jailbreak_0.10.N_k3w-3.2.1_install.bin ?? Just don't want to make any mistake, I'm totally out of my element in here. Thanks! |
