@samezrp: Like I said, I haven't played much (if at all) with this, so I may be completely off base, but Whispernet traffic is handled through an Amazon proxy, which might, among other things, explains why ICMP pings get squished.

Just gotten my replacement kindle, i've forgotten how i first did it almost a year ago.
I have installed the jailbreak and font hack because i wanted only the font for chinese texts. Is there a way i can have all the default kindle fonts back except for one used for chinese? I like that chinese font a lot but i'm happy with the default kindle fonts. I have no idea where my default kindle fonts went and how i should go about replacing the new ones. |

2.5.8 to 3.2.1
Success..using the instructions posted here I've updated my Kindle DXG to 3.2.1, all I have to do is update the font.bins and then re-do the screensaver hacks.
Question...now that I'm at 3.2.1 do I need to run the hacks for 3.2.1, or use the ones originally intended for DXG? There are specific warning to use hacks for 3.2.1 not earlier versions so I dont want to brick anything when I'm this close. As far as speed, the Kindle Screensavers load blazing fast, and where folks are having issues loading their personal photos they're probably too large. Using photoshop I've edited my Screensavers to kb size, while maintaining a ~ 130 line screen> thats magazine quality, and they load blazing fast too. @lgvenable You need to use NiLuJe's hacks for Kindle DXG, even you have software version 3.x. I already tested with Font Hack and SS Hack on my DXG.

BTW on the fonts..use the 2.5.8 or the 3.2 versions? Since the pages on the 2.5.8 fonts are single .bins, aren't they used for changing to a single font when at that firmware? When at 3.2.1 the device can read .ttf fonts, and can't we copy those into the device, then doo a full reboot/restart to initialize their use? On launchpad plus its improvements...2.5.8, essentially use the 2.5.8 hacks in all areas even while at 3.2.1? Thanks...I dont need to brick it now that I've got it set up like a new Kindle Last edited by lgvenable; 09-24-2011 at 08:53 AM. |

@lgvenable: Use the dxg bins, but you'll also have to overwrite the linkfonts folder with one from the -k3 package, the k2 packages are missing a bunch of stuff (UTF8, CJK & browser support). [The hack should disable itself until everything's in the right place].

@lgvenable: It's in the src folder of the -k3 zip.

Just to understand.. use the single bins for each of the dxg fonts, so thats several updates and reboots using the k2 dxg bins, plus Tedsans dxg bins. Than overwrite the linkfonts folder from the-k3 pkg, and do a restart to fully re-initialiize the Kindle and use the new linkfonts file structure. Last edited by lgvenable; 09-24-2011 at 08:41 PM. |

"Again, if you're having issues with the Fonts hack (missing fonts, blank pages/menu, ...), do try to use one of the new freetype override settings! In the same vein, disable your Kindle's password before switching fonts, there's been reports that a messed up font will prevent the password box from popping up, in which case you won't be able to unlock your device... And that probably means a hard reset to factory defaults will be needed to clear things up, and that's never fun ;'(."
I tried the installing the font hack last night and this is what exactly happened to my kindle 3. I cannot access the password box so I cannot open my kindle. My computer cannot read the device either because you have to enter the password first before you can connect to a computer. My question is how can I do this hard reset to factory setting without the password box? I've tried doing the 15sec hold to reset thing, it doesn't solve the problem. Please help... I'm getting a bit desperate. Thank you. |

@lgvenable: Er, what? Just install *this* hack like you were using a DXG, and then overwrite the linkfonts folder with the one from the k3 zip. That's a single .bin file, no need to complicate things o_O.
@kenshin191: AFAIK, you should still be able to perform a hard reboot, and then a reset to factory defaults (slide the power button for ~15s, and while the kindle restarts, hold down [HOME], that should start the reset to factory defaults UI instead of the framework). You might also try to blindly type your password in, but I have no idea if that's doable. Last edited by NiLuJe; 09-24-2011 at 08:50 PM. |

in recovery mode...
hi NiLuJe. i'm currently in recovery mode right now. the screen says "Your device is in Recovery Mode. To exit this mode, press R key."
should i press anything after this? or is it resetting factory settings already? well, i pressed the R key and my kindle is back to normal. thank you so much. Last edited by kenshin191; 09-25-2011 at 03:20 AM. Reason: problem is already solved |

you were referring to the link to these Attachment 76970 Use the k2 bin as the hack; then copy over the linkfonts folder from the k3 zip and you're done; correctomundo? BTW thanks for the help; when I looked at it it seemed like a duh question. ![]() |
