Does the Amazon.com Ereader Independent Custom Font Installation Software have also impact on e-reader periodicals and the browser?

Please tell me what is the system for installing new fonts that are not in the Amazon.com Ereader Independent Custom Font Installation Software, it is not mentioned in the download sections?

In fact could anyone say what happens if all the fonts in the Amazon.com Ereader Independent Custom Font Installation Software have been deleted and a few new ones put instead, say a sans serif and serif regular and there are no italics or bolds?

@pdagenius: Check the changelogs . If anything in there tempts you, go ahead, if not, there's nothing really ground-breaking in the latest packages, so that's really your choice .

@toenne: With which fonts? Does it happen on *every* newspaper?

I've never actually used the new magazine/newspaper layout *without* a fonts hack, so I have no idea how it's supposed to look, but on my kindle, the fonts are indeed a bit smaller than the size '3' in the reader (but still bigger than '2'), and, yeah, there's no Prev/Next text on the buttons (I'm pretty sure I actually never saw it, so, for me, that's not specific to the latest build).

I've attached a snapshot, if it helps .

EDIT: Woo, spambot!

NiLuJe,Hi!
My device is Kindle 3 3G+wifi(version:3.2.1).I've used Yifan Lu's latest method to jailbreak.(0.5.1version).There is no problem that i installed font hack, but problem happended when i installed the Screensaver hack.
According to your method, i followed all the steps, and installed successfully. However, it cannot display the new pictures, still the original pictures.i tried several times. The screensaver is the same as the picture which is displayed at the bottom of the screen. sorry that i cannot upload the picture. i describe it.there are many letters on the backgroud, and there are 2 sentences:Please connect wirelessly to download the latest Special Offers.Slide and release the power switch to wake.

i also tried this way:https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kind...nd_3.x_Kindles.

i don't know where mistake is.pls tell me.

Thanks a lot!

P.S:Before i installed the screensaver, i used a way to get rid of ads that i found on the internet.

@NiLuJe: Your screen-shot shows the same error. At the bottom of the right column you see somthing that looks like

_____|_____

Originally this looks like

prev | next

The prev/next buttons are still working the way the schould - even if the text is unvisible.

A few weeks ago I installed Jailbreak (0.7.N), Fonts (4.7.N) and Screensaver (0.23.N). In installed the linkfonts directory but didn't replace any font in linkfonts/fonts. At that time the prev/next text were still visible.
A few days ago I installed three newer versions of the Hacks mentioned above. I also removed the linkfonts subdir from Version 0.23.N and replaced it with the linkfonts subdir of version 0.24.N. The prev/next text became unvisible.
I tried to replace fonts in linkfonts/fonts with Diavolo_K3, FertigoPro_K3 and Fontin_K3. The next/prev text didn't come back. Currently Fontin_K3 is installed on my Kindle having a smaller font within the Sections&Articles menu then the original Kindle fonts.

Please see an example at http://www.kindleman.com/help/format/ The prev/next buttons also appear at the bottom of the left (Sections-)column if the number of itmes doesn't fit on a single page.

@toenne: I have no idea why the prev/next text would disappear with some fonts, and I doubt that's anything I could do something about, unfortunately. Depending on exactly how much smaller the font is, it might simply be because Fontin just *is* a bit smaller/more cramped than the default font. You might also want to try a bci or autohint FT override, see if it helps... (Or the classic Fontin package, not the _K3 one).

(Note that you don't have to tinker with the linkfonts folder on your own when doing updates, if you're using custom fonts, it won't touch them, but if you're using the default hack fonts, they'll automatically be updated).

@gabrielleon:

My guess is that what you actually used was a way to prevent the screen saver from changing (which you got over the internet). That would be one way to block the ads (and any other screen saver ...).

Remember: you get what you pay (or don't pay) for.

I confirm the same issue with my update. But I did use "kindle-jailbreak-0.6.N" ...
At least the lines are there ... and you know the left one is prev and the right one is next.

Hi NiLuJe, I have got Kindle DXG with FW 3.2.1 using Yifan Lu's method. I would like to ask what is the right .bin file to use for Font-hack as I don't think the .bin for DXG with FW 2.x is a good one to go.

Thank you in advance.

@satein: Can't remember who it was, but check a few pages back, someone explained how to do that.

I'm the one that had 3.2 on DXG, I needed to use Font Hack version 2.x to install.
