@HTung: Like I said, the hack doesn't touch it, so my guess would be something else is preventing your Kindle to enter the sleep state (That's the first time I've heard of an issue like that, though).
Check again with the default screensavers and the hack enabled (they're in the linkss/backups folder), and then try with the hack disabled (rename/remove the 'auto' file in the linkss folder). Don't forget to do a full proper restart. If it works, my guess would be that somehow one of your custom pictures is upsetting the Kindle framework... |

[Chinese Text] First line is no more truncated with FT override
Quote:
![]() I tried FT override with both autohint and light, and both fixed the issue, the first line is no more truncated. However, it does impact page turns perceived speed, esp. light mode. It doesn't really bother me while reading, and I stay with autohint mode. Maybe the page turn "performance" will be improved whenever. |

I love the font hack! That said, I just discovered the sans-serif replacement, DejaVu Mono and I LOVE IT. Is there a way to make that the font for the main screens as well as the actual books?
Thanks! edit: It seems that the font is only applied to the main text in books as well, so italicized text is also in a different font. Is there a complete DejaVu Mono set? Last edited by commandercup; 03-18-2011 at 08:33 PM. |

@chcheng_rwth: Yep, autohint should be the fastest rendering option, light does a bunch of processing on top, and bci, well, handles the bytecode language.
@commandercup: The DejaVu Sans package in the first post uses DejaVu Sans everywhere. DejaVu Sans Mono is the monospace font, not the sans-serif one. (Unless you were reading TXT/HTML files, in which case, yeah, the monospace fonts is used. In that case, check the first post for what do to to use your own fonts if you want to use DejaVu Sans Mono everywhere). |

Turns out the font that I was using was Droids Sans and not DejaVu. I also realized that the Kindle uses Serif for the main screens which is why it looks different.
Does Droids Sans not have an italic typeface? I looked at the italic and bold italic files and they are DejaVu typefaces. Also, I downloaded the Droids Sans archive, and it doesn't seem to work. All of the serif fonts are just renamed sans-serif fonts; is that correct? does this no longer work with fw 3.X? Thanks! |

@commandercup: Err, yeah, that's Droid, not DejaVu, right. But, yeah, I'm using DejaVu to fill up the blanks because there's no Italic style for Droid Sans, and a fake italic looked like crap.
As for the Droid Sans package, that's also droid sans+deja vu sans, and yeah, it does work on 3.x. If you're having issues with it (blank pages & stuff), see the numerous posts about that throughout this thread. Short story: can't reproduce it, only happens on some Kindles, using an FT override should 'fix' it. |

Eh, I guess I can deal with the slightly different italics. Thanks for the help! I can't get over how much I love the font. I'll probably search through the thread to get the entire droids san package working sometime.

Jailbreak not working
I successfully installed the jailbreak and screen saver hack on my Kindle 3G a month or two ago, and my friend recently got a Kindle 3 Wifi, so I thought I would do the same thing for him.
His Kindle is running firmware version 3.1, and is a Kindle 3 Wifi. Every time I try to install the jailbreak it fails with error number U002. I am copying file update_jailbreak_0.6.N_k3w_install.bin to his Kindle and applying the update, but it says that it has failed, and the Kindle restarts. Any thoughts / help? Could you please add my new hacks to white list: update_checkmd5 update_emergency P.S. 1. There small problem with white list. If user adds some custom hacks and install latest version of your Jailbreak, you will leave edited whitelist and new hacks (if it has in new Jail) will lost. May be, the way is to add custom_whitelist where users can add custom hacks. Or IMHO, better way to do auto detect (in example, simply verify sign via openssl) ![]() 2. If you edit whitelist in most text editors in MS Windows, they adds CRLF rather Unix like LF only, after this, Jail deny install ANY hacks. |

@Sir Alex:
Will do ![]() 1/. That's by design, I'm assuming people editing the whitelist know what they're doing, and know that they'll have to maintain it themselves after that. If you prefer an auto-detect, use yifanlu's jailbreak, I'm not going to change that (because I don't want to have to unpack the hack to check it, unpacking the fonts hack already takes a truckload of time, and so does unpacking official updates). 2/. Yep, I might add a dos2unix-like step to help, but I'd like to avoid having to do that... EDIT: Updated whitelists & implemented a workaround for 2/. Packages updated. I want to make sure I am understanding this correctly... I already had the jailbreak hack and screen saver hack on my K3. I now have the 3.1 software, but would like to update the hacks.
-I need to update the jailbreak, correct? Do I need to UNINSTALL the old one or just install the new one and it will replace the old one? -Do I need to do anything to my screen saver hack? Do I need to UNINSTALL the old one? Or can I just leave it and continue to use it with the new jail break hack? Or do I add the new screen saver hack and it will just automatically replace the old SS hack? Thank you!! |

@kuklachica:
Yep, you probably need an updated jailbreak. If you're updating from a non-3.1-friendly jailbreak, (ie. <= 0.4.N), you just need to install the newer jailbreak on top. If you're updating from a 3.1 jailbreak (ie. yifanlu's or >= 0.5.N), then you need to uninstall it first. For the other hacks (fonts/ss), you don't need to do anything, unless you happen to want the latest version for some reason (something new/improved or fixed that you care about), in which case you can just, as usual, install the latest version on top of the current one. |
