@Nyn - I just tried renaming a device, and it worked fine. You have to actually be connected to the particular device/folder to be able to rename it (enabling the rename button). That is because the name is stored inside a special file in the root of the device/folder.

Okay, I'm probably misunderstanding, but the use of the word folder got me thinking. Can I connect a directory on my computer as a device to reading list to organize? I keep a folder for books on my iPhone and I've been maintaining it without reading list, but it would open a lot of possibilities if I could link a directory as a device. I just don't know how yet... off to try now.

@Vaesse - as you may have found by now, yes you can just point to a directory folder (either directly on your device if it has a mapped drive or on your hard disk that you manually copy to the device). Functionality wise nothing changes that comes to mind - the only difference I can think of is that you have to manually choose the folder using the Connect button, your device won't be "detected" by calibre.

It was connected but it wasn't letting me select it to rename, I tried double clicking, right clicking. Nothing was working, it has been a while since I've renamed a device, am I doing something wrong??

The rename button is the one with the yellow arrow on it, next to the Add button.

Hmm. Can't find the connect button or any other way to add a device without "Add connected device". I guess I'm overlooking it somehow.

Well now I just feel stupid, I am going to blame it on lack of brain cells after playing with the Touch for the last week.

Check your toolbar settings, perhaps you do not have it on your toolbar. It is the Connect/Share option.

@kiwidude & capnm - Thank you both for the additional color. As I suggested before, were it merely additive, I wouldn't stress out too much about experimenting on my own. It's just that the word "replace" sets off all sorts of mental "no-takesie-backsie" alarms. Happily, RL's "replace" features are designed in the least incrementally intrusive ways possible, so i had little to worry about in the first place!

Does this work on the NC? because I synced my reading list to it but cant seem to find the list.

@booklover81 - are you looking for a "list" or for the books that you had on the list? There is currently no way to represent that list on the device itself - you can just transfer the books that exist on it to/from your device.

Any chance you could add methods to Reading List for other plugins to call to add and remove books from a list by passing a list name and a list of book_ids?

I see where your add_to_list() code does it, but it's pulling the list of book_ids directly from get_selected_ids(). It's possible I could manipulate the selected list, but I'd rather not.

I'd like to use Reading List to manage lists of stories on my e-readers while allowing my FanFictionDownLoader to download stories update those lists all in one step.

@JimmXinu - give the attached version a whirl and let me know if you need any other changes. I'll officially release it when it does what you need.

There is now an add_books_to_list and remove_books_from_list along with a few other methods exposed which should hopefully do what you need.

Wow, that's impressively quick, thanks!

And it works (when I call them from the foreground thread, see below).

Some other details that would help if you have time and inclination:

Expose a method to call cfg.get_book_list(list_name).
Expose a method to call cfg.list_names(). Seems to me that providing a facade to these two from ReadingListAction would be much cleaner than trying to dig down to them.
Ability to pass a flag to suppress the 'selected book(s) already/do not exist' confirmations on add/remove. (Calibre crashes when it tries to pop those from my background thread. Perhaps I'm doing the BG thread wrong, but it would still be nice to hide those.) Failing that, if I can call a get_book_list(list_name) method, I can avoid bogus adds/dels up front.

I really appreciate your help, thanks.
