What you say is generally true for most desktop/android/ios apps. For some reason, most e-ink devices come with very sluggish PDF readers that find it difficult to handle large PDFs. For example, the i86 has two dedicated PDF readers and both are very slow to respond compared to orion viewer. In fact, because the speed of the orion viewer in page turning is almost as fast as the default EPUB reader, I've been wondering whether a 3rd party EPUB reader will outdo the default app.

Since the new firmware crashes every time the dolphin browser. :-(

Has anyone a suggestion for a browser which can display links in a text visual different? The built in browser and opera mini don't do.

Have you also noticed that the default readers are slightly slower ?

Completely uninstall dolphin and install again. Replace will not repair broken settings. Most of apps require this 'fix' after new firmware.

I've just upgraded from an early 1.7.2 (or maybe it was 1.7.1) version and I see a huge improvement in the overall performance!
The i86 now handles like a "real" tablet with an e-ink screen (as opposed to an ereader with play store added). I'm mostly using the Pocket app to read articles and the web browser (again for long articles) and it's a pleasure to use.
The fonts are bolder, have more contrast, the screen refresh and scrolling are faster.

I use Moon Reader Plus instead of the built-in readers as the customizability and usability are superior, imho.

Mantano works ok, it seems to have a page animation if you tap on the left of the screen but it's only when you go to the previous page.

And yeah RE: any Onyx firmware update, it's best to use something like Titanium Backup to back up all your installed applications, reset, install firmware update, and then restore. On every update I've experienced instability until I do this reset/restore cycle.

I have a wealth of dictionaries in DSL and MDX formats. I already have Goldendict (for DSL) and Bluedict (for MDX) installed. The only problem is I can't set the default dictionary in the default reading apps to anything other than OnyxDictionary, which is pretty useless. Does anyone know of an app that converts DSL files to startdict format ?

If you install the ABBYY Lingvo dictionary (for DSL format) you can set it as default dictionary in the default reading apps: Settings > Language > Dictionary > Dictionary applications

How do you add dictionaries. I copied the DSL dictionaries that I have into the 'Dictionaries' folder but Lingvo didn't detect them and there's no way to scan for them in the app.

BOOX i86 Users Manual V1.7.pdf

noticed a users manual on my brand new i86 so here it is

PS1 :
i am not used to eink : contrast is good under high light conditions but seems a little weaker (to my old eyes) under low light.

PS2 :
what is a good way of forcing a screen refresh to remove the ghosting effects ?
=> first answer : found the screen refreshment in the onyx ereader apps settings and set it to "always"
=> 2nd (and better ) answer : long right button press triggers a screen redraw ( https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Boox...ugfix_requests )

Attached PDF, the User Manual, has been removed as copyrighted material.

I've bought my dictionary directly in Lingvo app, because I wanted to use professional dictionaries (CompactVerlag, Collins etc) The files of the dictionaries are stored in "ABBYY > Lingvo > Dictionaries" folder. GoldenDict recognizes automatically the lsd files of my dictionaries stored in ABBYY folders, so I can use them on different readers as well, not only on default Onyx readers.
