I just ordered a i86 HDML Plus from ereader-store, so waiting and very excited for it to arrive

All the reviews I've seen so far of i86 HDML (you can kinda ignore the original/prototype i86 reviews, that was not ready) are great!! Fast page turns, very high resolution, Android apps, etc.
And I like Onyx Boox for their wide functionality and format support (Kindle, Kobo etc. have just as good hardware, but software/functionality very limited).

The only real gripe people seem to have is the front light being uneven.
Will see once I get it, but to be fair I didn't see too many complaints about the early kindles/ereaders with front lights being uneven until the later smoother ones came out (e.g. Paperwhite).
And I don't see myself reading in the dark... if anything I would just turn on the front light a little bit to make the background look whiter (although I'm still fine with E-ink Pearl displays with no added lighting).

If anyone interested I manage to use larger than 32GB memory card. I've used format tool: link to format 64GB card and I have all space available.

KitKat upgrade?

Any news on the KitKat upgrade? A few months ago I read that the upgrade was coming very soon.

KitKat is actually a fairly big upgrade in terms of reliability, app compatibility, and UI adjustments. I would prefer it over Lollipop, actually, as Lollipop ruins the tablet user-interface.

Firmware version

Hello. I recently purchased the Onyx Boox i86 from ereader-store.de and i have a few inquiries.

Firstly, the build number (under device status) is 2015-08-25_18-14.1.7.3_157ea1d, which is newer than any of the available firmware versions (on both ereader-store.de and onyx-international.com). In the "about" menu it says "Version: dev (9096 - f0fcaed)". Did anybody elses device ship with a development version of the firmware (which i presume is what happened here)?

Otherwise everything seems to be working fine as far as i can tell. One more thing i was wondering about was hiding the system status bar in third party applications. I use orion viewer for pdf and djvu files and it's blazing fast. It actually does have a fullscreen setting, which doesn't appear to be doing anything (works fine on my tablet though, so it shouldn't be the apps fault). Is there a known workaround for this (preferably without root)?

EDIT: So it appears i was wrong about the firmware and it's just newer than the ones available at the moment, because i now have the very slightly older one from ereader-store.de and it still says "Version: dev (9096 - f0fcaed)", hence this must be related to something else.

It might be a flaw in the App.
I haven't updated my firmware, but the status bar hiding option built into Comicrack works.

Thanks for the reply. That would be too bad, since orion viewer is pretty great otherwise. I also tried it on my smartphone and it works flawlessly there. Is there maybe a launcher that hides the system status bar and then starts another application?

If you root your i86, you can use app 'full!screen' from the market for hiding the status bar. You can read books on full screen in any application. It works great

There are also an app made by DarkCookie which hide the top system status bar which does not require root. It work great for me so I suggest you try it.

Today I updated older app too: QuickFullScreen
This requires rather launcher. But don't use simultaneously with Manager. Manager will disable fullscreen on any app that is not checked on his fullscreen list.
