Question: On AO3, some in-progress fanfics have a total number of chapters. Is there a way to list that on the title page? I am searching defaults.ini but there is a lot of lines.

A story on www.scribblehub.com has started giving me problems. It no longer catches new chapters unless I force it to update. I can't link the story here because of the rating, will send you the link privately.

I think the problem is that they added a new chapter at the beginning of the story, so the first chapter has a more recent date than the chapters that immediately follow it.

Chapter date doesn't matter for this adapter--it just uses the list and order given.

It worked fine when I downloaded the story (URL from PM), deleted the last chapter and then updated.

What are you seeing exactly? Does FFF report that it already has the same number of chapters?

I tried downloading the story from scratch, deleting a chapter and checking for updates. Still says, "Not Overwriting, web site is not newer."

New information. 'Overwrite if newer' doesn't work, but 'Update if new chapters' does.

"Update if new chapters" uses # of chapters, but "overwrite if newer" actually does check the dates. Depending on how (or if) the site reports the date, or if you modified the ePub, or even weird timezone issues can mess things up.

That looks to be the problem. The story page lists the last updated date as the 20th, but has chapters for the 20th, 22 and 24th.

Has nothing to do with the new chapter in the beginning.

Unless told otherwise, I assume all users download to epub and use "Update EPUB if New Chapters". The details of "Overwrite if Newer" are different and described in the page ownedbycats linked.

The fact that there are newer chapers than the story Updated date looks like a site bug.

If you can point at another story with the same problem (chapters dated newer than the story 'Updated' date), I'll look more into changing the code to use the newest chapter date for dateUpdated.

I'm not volunteering to do it for this single case because currently the chapters are collected from a separate site hit that does not include chapter dates.

Or, you know, just use "Update EPUB if New Chapters" which will work fine and only download new chapters without downloading everything each time.

So, I'm trying to change genre of books a little and then divide it into two columns. So I've got:

#Assuming genre in book are AAA and BBB

add_to_extra_valid_entries:,mycolumn
include_in_mycolumn: genre

replace_metadata:
 genre=>^AAA$=>CCC

exclude_metadata_post:
 genre!~^CCC$
 mycolumn=~^CCC$

custom_columns_settings:
 mycolumn=>#custom1

So I clearly don't understand the code, because I thought this would return CCC for genre and AAA and BBB for mycolumn. But it returns nothing in mycolumn. Can someone tell me what did I do wrong? I am very confused. (edit) If I remove the second line from exclude_metadata I get CCC only in mycolumn for some reason. I do not understand why CCC even appeared in mycolumn. Does the include_in_ only work after the replace/exlude_metadata?

I will post actual code and fics I used for testing later, because right now I don't have access, but I still wanted to ask, since I am just that impatient.

Changes applied to genre occur before mycolumn is copied.

You can prevent that by using:

## in/exclude/replace_metadata -- Only works on include_in_ lines.
include_in_mycolumn: genre.NOREPL

Or by turning it around and changing mycolumn instead.
