Question: Is there a way to replace just one chapter instead of overwriting all, e.g. the author did some retroactive edits or fixed a broken image or something.

Use Edit Book to remove that chapter, then update. I do that not infrequently.

I've just updated a fanfictionnet fic successfully, after ongoing Cloudflare version 2 failures since Jimmy's last full release. (see my post #5254.) It looks like 'Treading Lightly' pays off!
![]() For the time being I suggest only updating a single fic at a time, only if you *KNOW* for sure its been updated since you last checked it, not updating another fic until after a plausible delay (as-if you had actually read the new chapter(s) in a browser) , and waiting at least 24H before retrying if you get a Cloudflare version 2 error in FanFicFare. Also, if your browser is doing occasional Cloudflare version 2 checks, the 'paranoia' level is likely to be too high for FanFicFare. ![]() Meanwhile I suggest concentrating on finding alternative sources for your favorite fics, and switching over to them. I strongly recommend making an external backup of all fanfictionnet fic EPUBs you intend to switch. If you download from a new URL, FanFicFare will offer to change the URL of an existing fic, if and *ONLY* if there is an *EXACT* author and title match, and only succeeds if the new URL has more chapters or if you have it set to do full updates rather than adding chapters. You can change the URL of a fic manually, by editing the 'Ids' field of the metadata, and preferably also the 'Publisher' (to avoid confusion), and FanFicFare will update successfully from the new URL if you got it correct. (Check other fics or do a test download to see what to strip to get the root story URL for that site.) However if the site story structure is radically different to fanfictionnet (e.g. tagged posts in a forum thread), you may not be happy with the result and it would have been preferable to download the fic with a new Id. (If necessary, forcing that by editing the title of the old fic to be different.) YMMV. @JimmyXinu, Is there any chance of a workflow for manually adding chapters to a fic from saved (HTML only) web pages, that doesn't involve manually editing or merging EPUBs? Also, please either make the story URLs in the list dialog returned by 'Get Story URLs for Selected Books' clickable for ease of opening in one's default browser, or add a menu item to 'Browse Story URL of Selected Book' with an appropriate confirmation dialog if multiple books are selected. ![]() I would also suggest waiting at least a couple hours before updating any ffnet fics that you get alert emails for. They have been making new chapters available, but not showing updated metadata (word count & updated date in particular) for as much as several hours. Quote:
In the meantime, I understand that fanfictiondownloader.net (standalone program) and WebToEpub (browser add-on) are still working. (Please keep discussion of other tools in this thread short and relevant to FFF, thanks.) |

@JimmXinu
I apologize for misnaming you. Many thanks for the update on future intentions for, and your existing and ongoing hard work on FanFicFare. @all, I can confirm that the Cloudflare version 2 challenge is extremely hair-triggered. Doing a new chapters only update on only six fics with a couple of minutes between them was enough to trigger it on the seventh. Fortunately it seems to have reset a couple of hours later. If you trip it *DON'T* keep 'hammering' it, as there's a risk they'll double the duration each time. Last edited by Ian.M; 01-26-2021 at 12:44 PM. |

I'm unable to confirm that myself, but it's possible that your IP got flagged by Cloudflare for "threatening behaviour" (possibly not of your own doing; your ISP may have given you an IP previously used by a bad actor).
Depending on your ISP, turning off your modem for a few minutes and then turning it back may give you a new (and hopefully unflagged) IP. If that doesn't work, Cloudflare does unflag IPs if there's 14 days of no suspicious activity. Last edited by ownedbycats; 01-26-2021 at 01:11 PM. |

Hey guys,
I have a bit of a strange question. I have 2 library’s one real one and one for testing when I’m trying to figure something out. I usually just start by copying my entire personal.ini file and go from there. However, and here is the strange thing, if I run the update on my saved metadata in my test library it works just as I intended but as soon as do the exact same thing in my normal library it fails. Has anyone run in to this problem before and therefor knows what could be the trigger other than the .ini file? And even weirder is that when I use the below in my .ini it does charge “Brian” into “Bryan” but not “(The 100)” into “(the 100) category=>^The 100 \(TV\)$=>the 100 characters=>^Brian \(The 100\)$|^Bryan \(The 100\)$=>Bryan (the 100)&&category==the 100 this is the saved metadata I have in the file Spoiler:
I’ve noticed it only happen when the result ends with “(the 100)” and not when the same is in the middle of the result. I’ve also tried changing it to \(the 100\) just for the sake of trying but the result shows exactly like that backslashes included. I’ve also attached a copy of how it shows in my library. |

My appologies in advance if any of my post show up twice, I seem to be having some problem with posting and though it was related to a expired log in session.
Edit: Can I remove this post? Since none of my others showed up but this did? Last edited by ackomb; 01-26-2021 at 01:50 PM. |

There's a notification about there being new post in this thread, but I can't see it. I'm just posting this to see if the new post shows up.
EDIT: Nope. Weird. Maybe it was deleted? |

Okay final try at posting something today.
I have something strange When I try to change Brian (The 100) into Bryan (the 100) I get Bryan (The 100) - the difference being the capital T in The though it does change Brian with an I into Bryan with a Y characters=>^Brian \(The 100\)$=>Bryan (the 100)&&category==the 100 However if I try it like this, with the extra space behind 100 it does change into Bryan (the 100 ) characters=>^Brian \(The 100\)$=>Bryan (the 100 )&&category==the 100 So can anyone tell my whi my .ini file trips up when a string result ends with "100)" |

That explains why I kept seeing that ackomb was the last poster in the thread but couldn't see their posts.
