Yeah ... upon further testing I see my flaw
![]() I tried to trick parser to do following - put series data into custom column #myseries - put rating data into series (with your recommendation include_in_series) - display series data in standard series column This of course works if story has universe and not series, as I can store universe data into custom column #myseries. But if story has Series data, I can not get that information into #myseries, because I already overwrite that information upon fetching with rating. |

Also, for my previous never_make_cover issue when trying to preserve ffnet covers: I think it's because I used Overwrite instead of Update Always. Also possibly a trailing slash in the URL in the ini, but I'd need more testing to be sure.

a) added rating into series include_in_series:series,rating b) created another variable and copied series data add_to_extra_valid_entries:,solseries include_in_solseries:series c) Split both variables by comma solseries_LIST=>([^,]+),(.+)=>\1 series_LIST=>([^,]+),(.+)=>\2 Now I have to find different stories with possible variables (inUniverse, inSeries, solo) to test if this works in any condition. |

@Jager956
A little tip: For testing without messing up your existing fics, you can go to Add Book > Add empty book > Duplicate current book. You don't need to copy the formats if you just use update metadata. Also make sure your column updates aren't set to "new only." I often use this for testing that my regexes don't break catastrophically. Just keep in mind that you'll need to run Update ePub Always to update the title page once you get it the way you like. Last edited by ownedbycats; 01-10-2021 at 05:09 PM. |

New Version Released
Version 3.28.0 - 11 Jan 2021 - Disable adapter_fanfictionnet with warning about site blocking. - Catch exception from emails not decoding, skip & logger.error(). - Add a fake get_image_size() method for when no image processing available. Closes #621 (CLI only) - Change adapter_twilightednet to https - Change for adapter_fanfictionnetadapter_fanfictionnet to make skip_author_cover work again. - Make included certifi and requests use same tmp file code and store under calibre tmp dir for cleanup. - Add append_datepublished_to_storyurl option for storiesonline.net, finestories.com, scifistories.com only. fanfiction.net disabled This version disables fanfiction.net support. The site is blocking our traffic and working around it has become prohibitively difficult. We can hope that the situation will improve and fanfiction.net support will be returned, but for now, this version gives a more accurate error message when it fails and stops throwing extra traffic at the fanfiction.net servers. |

Fanfiction.net blocking downloads
Moderator Notice Post (and reply) moved to the correct thread. I have discovered that Fanfiction.net is now blocking 3rd party downloads. This includes the Calibre plugin as well as their own Fanction.net iOS app. I have been in touch with their tech support on this issue and this was confirmed by them. They are also now requiring captcha to try & limit even browsing/reading on their own site & in their own app. I wanted to bring this up & make people aware. I just installed the latest calibre plugin to test it & getting the following error Status Title Author Comment URL Error Living in the Past enlyasurgeon The site fanfiction.net is blocking downloads. Site is disabled in this version of FanFicFare. https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13537016/1/ This is a clipboard copy of the error from the calibre fanficfare plugin. I will keep you posted as to what I find out from the fan fiction tech support to keep you updated. I just got another email response from Fanfiction tech support & since I upgraded their iOS app had to file another bug report. Draklorien Last edited by JimmXinu; 01-11-2021 at 06:09 PM. Yes, it's been an ongoing bug report for several days now. Jim disabled the ffnet adapter and added that message specifically because the previous error caused confusion.
FFnet put their site in Cloudflare's "under attack" mode, which is meant to mitigate an active DDoS attack. (I have my suspicions it might be a misconfiguration though, or even just sheer laziness.) Thus the constant browser checks and CAPTCHAs, which break most downloaders. Last edited by ownedbycats; 01-12-2021 at 04:24 AM. |

Hey Jim
Food for thought, WebtoEpub works. Whats the difference? could it be applied to FFD? |

Web2Epub was mentioned in the Github thread. If I understood his post correctly Jim is looking at it and/or FFDL as intermediaries to grab the content, then feed it into FFF for processing.

A day or two ago there was a glitch that resulted in users being sent to the wrong account page when logging in, showing another username and their full email (yeah, not good). I checked it out myself and it looked like the server was inappropriately serving up cached pages. It seems to have resolved itself. And now it seems that any notifications result in multiple emails. I got seven emails from an author I follow posting a oneshot. ![]() Last edited by ownedbycats; 01-12-2021 at 04:33 AM. |

Reporting an error
I keep getting errors for Fanfiction.net downloads. I know Fiction Press/Fanfiction has been doing a lot of updates recently, so I figured that is probably the cause.
This is the error message I got tonight when trying to update a story previously downloaded: The Procedure iambeagle The site fanfiction.net is blocking downloads. Site is disabled in this version of FanFicFare. https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13714341/1/ I did the most recent Calibre update as well as the most recent plug-in update, but I'm still getting this error message. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know of several other readers who are getting the same error. Thanks! Sally |

You should be posting in the FanFicFare thread, not making a new one. After this, I will move it.
