Hi!

I'm having a problem downloading from twilighted.net.

I'm a new user of FFF, and I switched in part because FicLab doesn't support this site (and others), when I saw it on your list of supported sites. Since twilighted was down for the last few weeks, I just began to download today now that it works again.

When I tried to "Download from URL" with FFF, nothing happened, like when sites aren't supported. I found it odd (Like I just said, I checked specifically for this like 3 weeks ago), but figured I had maybe confused this site with another, so I checked again the list of supported sites.

Here's what I found: The site is on the list, I even checked the link, (I'm dyslexic, I don't always trust myself to distinguish two very close names) it goes on the same site.

The "Exemple URL" on the list look like that:
https://twilighted.net/viewstory.php?sid=1234

While the URL I'm trying to update look like that:
https://twilighted.net/viewstory.php?sid=12696

I tried to download the "Exemple URL", and couldn't either, so I don't know what's happening. I just wanted to know if it was a choice on your part (you don't support this site anymore), in this case, you may want to remove it from your "supported sites list", or if you simply didn't know/have time to work on the issue.

There's a blast from the past--Twilight fanfic sites used to be some of the most common, way back when.

The last time I tested, twilighted.net wasn't working correctly.

But looking now, it works in FFF again, but only if you use http:// (no 's') URLs instead https://. Just take the 's' off.

Or install the test version I just posted.

How long has it been since that adapter was last updated? Non-https domains are becoming something of an obscurity these days.

While reading a previously downloaded fic, I saw a mention in the author notes about there being translations to some non-English text if you hover over it. I presume some form of alt-text, but AO3's down at the moment so I can't check. Can FFF handle alt-text and how would i enable it?

EDIT: AO3's back up. The fic uses <a title="translated text">Original text.</a>

Unfortunately manually editing it in ebook-editor doesn't show the alt-text in the preview pane (which I believe uses the same renderer as ebook-viewer). I can live without the embedded translation, but any other ideas?

By default, FFF strips title attributes. You can preserve them using keep_html_attrs.

I don't know how different book reads handle title attributes--that's outside my knowledge or control.

From defaults.ini:

## If set true, any title attributes on tags in the story HTML will be

Unfortunately a new error for fanfiction.net

This just started this afternoon. I have updated to the latest test release of fanficfare in calibre but the new error is the following.

Detected a Cloudflare version 2 challenge, This feature is not available in the opensource (free) version.

Not sure if you can do anything about it but thought I would bring it to your attention.

I'm not getting the same error.

What version of Calibre are you using? This error is more common on older versions from what I recall.

If you're on 5.xx, it's possible your IP might be on Cloudflare's "suspicious activity" list (not necessarily anything you did - it can happen if your ISP gives you an IP address previously used by a bad actor). If this is the case, turning the modem off for a few minutes and then turning it back on might reset your IP, if you have access to it.

Calibre 5.8.1

I updated when fanfiction.net started playing around in Dec. I was doing great until this afternoon when I got that error. At that point I upgraded the plugin and tried again. Received the same error.

My ip address hasn't changed in a good month.

I can give it a try later on a different computer that has a VPN connection to see if that changes things.

Assuming you are already using the latest test version, I am not aware of anything else I can do to FFF to help with further CloudFlare issues.

I could ask the usual questions and make the usual recommendations about "don't download too much, too fast, give it a few days" -- especially since we don't know what limits may apply now.

I was able to download 8 books totaling 82 chapters this afternoon(plus 6 'already downloaded'), but that's the hardest I've tried to push it since adding cloudscraper.

Some people have reported success with VPNs and switching IPs.

So it has been about an hour since I had the error and I tried again.

This time it downloaded with out issue (same URL same computer, same calibre processes running) I may have just been unlucky in my timing when I tried to download earlier.

Thanks for checking. I was afraid it was something new that you would have to try to work around.

Adding a slow_down_sleep_time to your [www.fanfiction.net] in personal.ini may help prevent it in the future. I use 8 and don't get any problems even when checking all my ffnet in-progresses at once. (I usually just grab chapter updates from my RSS feeds though.)

consistently getting this error as well. even with a VPN changing my address to be in Seattle, then London, then Singapore. all 3 locations reporting the same cloudflare v2 challenge error.

This is for updating just 4 books btw.

Thank you for the update bigwoof. I started getting this error again as well. At least I now know that VPN is not the answer. I did put in the previous delay as was suggested as I didn't have it before so unfortunately, this is something more.....
