Not anymore, alas. I went through a Ska/Mod phase when I was very young, I'm talking 10 or 11 here. I had the Ben Sherman shirts, the suspenders, a fishtail parka, the hat the whole thing (even had drainpipe trousers, and who I got them from I don't know). Oh man, they were some good times being the only Mod/Ska kid in the whole school

God no! I tend to avoid photographs at all costs, even when I was a kid (too shy and I always end up looking ridiculous on piccies). I think most of my piccies from when I was a kid are school ones.

I used to hang around with a load of older kids, like 16 and 17 and one of them had a scooter, and he was a proper Mod (think Quadrophenia in style). We used to go over to his house and listen to Bad Manners and Madness and all the old Ska stuff from Jamaica.

This was the one we listened to the most:

that's how much of my musical education happened too. although i didn't actually know any mods... i guess i must have stumbled into ska all on my own. i really got into it when i came across a ska band busking on a bridge. they were so great i asked them if they had any concerts planned. they did, that evening. i went, ended up going out with the bassist for about a month, and he took me around to every concert going on in the city and i met all the bands. followed them all for years after that. aaah, happy times...

Imagine someone as bald as Buster Bloodvessel from Bad Manners, only with a goatee, who has been asked on many occasions if he is one of these nationalities

Iraqui, Iranian, French, Jewish, Russian, Turkish, Greek, Spanish...the list goes on

My sister's friends, when they see me, don't believe I'm actually related to her

The musical mix in my neighborhood, at least with my several sets of friends from around age 10 onwards, was very strange. I was in with the Mods, the Skinheads (not the evil ones), the Breakdancers at one point, later on the Punks, the Goths and the Metalheads. I calmed down around 25/26 though

my sister's friends often ask if we're twins, which is really weird, because we really don't look that much alike. (so your sister just looks british, then ? )

It's possible, believe me and it has its upsides and downsides. Upside: the local Kebab shop still think I'm Turkish and give me a discount Downside: I was attacked several times after the 7/11 tube bombings (eggs thrown at me, punched) and was regularly searched by armed officers at Liverpool Lime Street station going to work

My sister is quite British, although the tanning beds don't...well, the less said about that the better (Only kidding, I love her and she knows that )

Nah, don't worry about it, I didn't Getting jumped or beaten up is pretty much par for the course where I hail from. Race is just an excuse for some of these idiots, if it wasn't race it would be the clothes you had on (I won't tell you about how many times I've been threatened on my way back from a club or the pub with broken bottles and knives or the friends I've seen hospitalised).

Piece of advice, if you're ever in England (especially smaller towns) avoid the pubs and clubs Friday and Saturday nights. It's like the Wild West

wow. okay. i've got a friend who's seen his share of fights (including in london pubs, when he was visiting) but at the time he was a hard core punk rocker and i guess that was more or less inevitable sometimes. i'm quite the delicate flower, i've never been in a fight and wouldn't know what to do if i ever saw one (except panic, maybe, or run away, or something. i really don't know what i'd do). i've lived in some relatively bad neighborhoods (and near some *really* bad ones), and i used to routinely cross the entire city on foot alone at 4 in the morning after a concert, but i've actually been stunningly lucky. at worst i've been hassled verbally, but just typical macho guy stuff whenever any woman crosses their field of vision.

I'm not a fighter either, I'm almost virging on pacifist most of the time. I got my fare share of bloody noses and bust lips at Punk gigs, but it was all in good fun, and sometimes because my dog-chain came loose and hit me in the face
