Give us this day all that you showed me,
The power and the glory 'til thy kingdom come. Give me all the story book told me, The faith and the glory 'til thy kingdom comes. And they said that in our time, All that's good will fall from grace. Even saints would turn their face, |

Celtic Woman, "The Greatest Journey"
watching them on PBS Damn. 4 gorgeous women, and a pixie violinist, with clear, beautiful voices, backed by an awesome band/orchestra/chorus. No screaming, screeching trying to pass for singing. No filth spewing. No slutty gyrations trying to pass for dancing or entertainment. Just real music by real artists. God Bless Ya, ladies! |

"When the earth was still flat,
And the clouds made of fire, And mountains stretched up to the sky, Sometimes higher, Folks roamed the earth Like big rolling kegs. They had two sets of arms. They had two sets of legs. They had two faces peering Out of one giant head So they could watch all around them As they talked; while they read. And they never knew nothing of love. It was before the origin of love. ..." Rousseau walks on trumpet paths
Safaris to the heart of all that jazz Through I bars and girders-through wires and pipes The mathematic circuits of the modern nights Through huts, through Harlem, through jails and gospel pews Through the class on Park and the trash on Vine Through Europe and the deep deep heart of Dixie blue Through savage progress cuts the jungle line In a low-cut blouse she brings the beer Rousseau paints a jungle flower behind her ear Those cannibals-of shuck and jive They'll eat a working girl like her alive With his hard-edged eye and his steady hand He paints the cellar full of ferns and orchid vines And he hangs a moon above a five-piece band He hangs it up above the jungle line Leonard Cohen+Herbie Hancock/The Jungle Line/River: The Joni Letters |

More cheezy 80's music!
That made him pack his bags up and r'un? Could it be another he's found? - It's breaking up the happy home. Mister can you tell me where my love has gone? He's a Japanese boy. I woke up one morning and my love was gone |

Adagio in G: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mz4dpbk8YBs
I had grown up being told that it was a piece originally written by baroque composer Tomaso Alibinoni and arranged from the fragments that had been found in the ruins of the WWII firebombing of Dresden among the ashes of the rest of his works. According to Wikipedia, this piece was actually written entirely in 1958 by Remo Giazotto who had claimed to have arranged it from the fragments that were sent to him. But apparently the fragments have never been seen and presumably never existed. No matter. When someone says a piece of music is haunting, I instantly think of this. One more tidbit. In 1992 in Sarajevo, cellist Vedran Smajlović played this piece for 22 days to honor the 22 people who had been killed while standing in a bread line during the seige. As I recall hearing at the time he did so out in the open on street corners in the war torn city. He said he chose the piece because it was the most beautiful one he knew. (This year, a bestselling book was released about him but it was done without his knowledge or consent and he has openly expressed outrage about it.) |
