Cicadas and the air conditioner. It's already 80+ degrees at 7:30 in the morning.

Yesterday, we attended the Alabama Butterbean Festival. (I guess all the good festivals were already taken, such as watermelon or ice cream festivals?) It was 98 degrees, full sun, and we were sampling various hot, boiled, heavy butterbean dishes. They had contests for best butterbean and best cornbread. A Miss Butterbean beauty contest. Moon bounce and rides. They had arts-&-crafts booths, etc., so it was lots of fun. We finally left when it got so hot that I couldn't hear anymore over the heat stress buzzing in my head. My favorite part of the whole thing was the shaved ice stand!

that sounds like nice weather for swimming. or reading in the shade with a nice cold drink. yesterday the weather here was surprisingly nice but today it's overcast again and chilly and we're expecting storms. i'm about to put some socks on my cold feet. a good day for reading indoors with a cup of hot tea.

however, since i am currently listening to blissful silence things could be worse.

i'm trying to soak it up because school starts this week. so the shums will be back in force.

I will be too, starting tonite/tomorrow, but no socks. There's a whole bunch of hurricanes and baby hurricanes heading for the Gulf of Mexico. I'm 300 mils inland, so we usually just get rain and tornados. Last week, TS Fay dumped about 5 inches of rain in Bham, but H Gustav looks to be even wetter. i haven't been using last.fr in quite some time ; i tried it for a while just after pandora booted all of their non-us listeners and found it really disappointing (because i looooooved pandora). and then i found deezer which is okay (although not the same concept at all). i listen to a lot of my own music mainly. but i will give last.fr a try again. my user name will probably be zelda pinwheel (or some variation) unless some theiving knave has stolen that.

I never really got into Pandora but last.fm has changed a lot, in particular the radio functions which have improved immeasurably. And it has over four years of my listening statistics which is great if you're into that sort of thing (I am).
