I was doing a fresh install of a Windows 11 VM so snaphotted it after the install and tried installing an old calibre version after setting MS Shell Dlg 2 to Courier New in the registry.
  1. installed calibre 4.23.0 and I was able to select MS Shell Dlg 2 and the interface changed to Courier New.
  2. Reverted to the snapshot
  3. installed calibre 5.44.0 and I was able to select MS Shell Dlg 2 and the interface changed to Courier New.
  4. Reverted to the snapshot
  5. installed calibre 6.2.1 and MS Shell Dlg 2 was not visible in the font menu. Selected Courier New and the interface changed to Courier.
  6. Reverted to the snapshot
  7. installed calibre 4.23.0 and selected MS Shell Dlg 2 as the interface font. Updated to 5.44.0 and the font selection was still there. Updated to 6.2.1 and the ability to select MS Shell Dlg 2 in the font list disappeared and the interface font changed to Arial (New).

And yes, I had way too much time on my hands today. The only way to restore the interface font after the 6.2.1 update was to locate the actual font file and select it by name.

Edit: Did some browsing and ran into several items stating the QT6 was no longer able to select Microsoft's logical fonts (MS Shell Dlg 2 being one of those).

We've known that since post 19

If you read post 75 you will see that the OP's issue has nothing with fonts, real, imagined, logical or as MS calls them substitute fonts.

The issue is with the Bulk Metadata Download Review window having slightly larger vertical spacing between edit widgets, bigger text boxes for the Comments widgets, and a bigger rendition of the cover images.

I know that though I thought the revelation went back to post #54. I was also remembering an earlier post where @lauraq stated that the font was not Tahoma.

I've looked at quite a few of the QT6/system font error reports and think I have managed to wrap my mind around some of the design decisions.

For the most part, I simply had the time to kill and so slaughtered it.

The main reasons are because the Comments text box is bigger (as is the text), and the cover image is larger - perhaps the previous version resized the cover image to fit the space available.

Here are the two Bulk Metadata Download Preview windows, clipped from your post, side by side

It looks like the vertical spacing between widgets is smidgen smaller. There's not much you can do about that, nor the size of the comments box or cover image, they would require a code change.

I don't think you can suppress the message in the status line about new versions, you can suppress the popup message in Preferences->Behaviour (top left).

I'm done… for now.

ok thanks

for all...thanks guys ... it's nice to see that you care about solving the problems I have posed to you

and anyway, I still think that it would be enough to restore the part that has been modified in the latest version of Calibre regarding the management of fonts and everything would be solved. I don't understand why you need to change something that works perfectly. And I don't think I'm the only person who has noticed these negative changes even though I'm the only one who wrote it down.

@Lauraq - you can report it as a bug here ==>> https://bugs.launchpad.net/calibre

Include a link to this thread, drawing attention to post 75.

Christ on a cross. For the last time: MS Shell Dlg 2 is not a font!!!! You can pick whatever font you like that MS Shell Dlg 2 used to correspond too. And in any case this change is in Qt not calibre, so go complain there.
