I have find an old backup version of Calibre....and it showed MS Shell DLG2. So the problem ISN'T Windows

Try Segoe UI semibold and see what you think. The font in the photo looks like a bit darker then a regular font and that's the only one I can think of.

In this context, I assume that the critical difference between calibre 5.44 and 6.2.1 is the version of Qt that calibre is using. But I haven't a clue as to the underlying cause of the absence of the font in calibre version 6.

I suppose I should have a peek in my registry, here 'tis:

thanks you are very kind but the font is different.
The difference is not only in personal taste but it is also practical. Look at the window that appears in my searches, with the old font, photo 2, I didn't have to scroll to see the cover, with the other fonts I have to do it

You will have to experiment to find the font.

Based on what has been said in this thread, the issue is that a bug that was fixed in Qt6 no longer displays the virtual font you have been using. And exactly what real font was by that virtual font could be different on different machines. I don't know if that is because it was a user choice, or it was set by MS to different fonts at different times. Or it could be both. It was something the user could choose, but, MS used different defaults for it over the versions of Windows. The screenshots from@BetterRed shows it is Tahoma on his system. And checking here, it is also Tahoma. But, the only thing that shows your font is older versions of calibre and the registry.

If you want to move on with calibre 6, then you need to accept this and choose another font name. It will not be "fixed" as it is not actually a bug.

The bug was introduced in QT6, and should be reported there if confirmed outside of Calibre.

Are we in a science fiction movie and I haven't noticed?

Are you telling me that Windows, based on my hair color or my nails, decides which font to use?

I don't know what Qt6 is but I know that the problem is caused by the latest version of Caliber because the previous version shows the font that I use. So a change was made by the creators of Caliber which disabled the use of the font, I ask if it is possible to restore it. And please don't make me look like a madwoman asking for absurd and unattainable things. Otherwise I'll keep the old version of Caliber

I suggest you have a look in the registry to see what font is defined for MS Shall Dlg 2. Then you'll know what the font is.

I suspect what's happened is that MS wanted to get rid of "Substitute Fonts". But rather than ditching them holus-bolus it has left enough in place to maintain backwards compatibility for older applications, but discouraged ongoing use of the 'feature' in recently developed/updated applications.

MS tries to maintain backwards compatibility, which allows people like me to run 25 year old software on the current version of Windows. Some platforms wont even run software developed 10 years ago let alone last century.

@Lauraq - have a look at MS Reference Sans Serif, to my not very good eyes it seems a bit 'sharper' than my MS Shell Dlg2 (Tahoma).
