The PE doesn't see adhoc networks so you need to install something in it so that it does see it.

Sounds like you either have to run software on the droid or the PE.
In anycase, looks like we have two known solutions here which is great.

When you run Open Garden's solution, you have to root your phone. That may be an issue with some, but you can connect with any device that supports wifi, no matter what OS it is running.

From what i am reading you have to install opengarden on your phone.

However some phones wifi chipsets allow tethering in infrastructure mode. The droid 1 from verizon only supports adhoc so in my solution I needed the adhoc switcher installed on the edge to allow the edge to connect/detect adhoc networks.

if your phone supports infrastructure mode you will not have to install anything on your edge.

If you do not pay your carrier for tethering or your carrier/phone does not support tethering you will have to root the phone and install a tethering app in order to tether.

Open garden is installed on your phone. You install nothing on the EE/PE.
I didn't realize the older droid can only support adhoc mode. In fact, I didn't realize this would be an issue. I did check and it says that Open Garden uses adhoc mode so I wonder if it's a moot point? In anycase, msavides has the early droid and I would go with what he says.

I have the latest droid for Verizon and open garden just works in with both tethering formats: wifi and bluetooth.

I'm not sure if it supports USB tethering, but then again, I don't care since now have two methods of tethering that works.

I think this program ZT-180 Adhoc Switcher should be put in a stick thread to get adhoc support on the EE/PE

the app is called ZT-180 Adhoc Switcher and can be found on slideme market.

Also your phone must be rooted to tether with verizon or you must pay verizon for tethering. Your edge must be rooted to run the adhoc switcher app as well.

I've actually started a post on this app to try and get any info I can about it. It seems to run ok on the PE I currently have. I'm waiting on any EE test runs as I don't own one. But it's still not technically made for PE itself and with there always being a worry of WSOD. It'll remain un-stickied until more positive evidence is forumed Im sure.

Either way, here is my thread.

Try the Adhoc with XT-Adhoc Switcher modification also. Not additional program to install.
