Warning. For those who used "quit" from Sudoku game. I found that if Sudoku was exited from the "quit" menu (ether in version 1 or 2) the "sleep" mode is no longer valid and the battery discharges fast even while reading. If you ever used "quit" to exit Sudoku, please, do "reset" to return to normal operation (push "reset" from the hole at the back and do power off- and on-).

If exit is done by removing the card everything is fine and the "sleep mode" is OK for both reading and playing Sudoku.

To eliminate possibility to exit with "quit" menu this function is temporary blocked (in the current version available from my site). You can continue using Sudoku (after reset operation) but without "quit" menu (just remove card to exit).

Sorry for inconvenience.

Problem solved. New 2.1 version is available for download. Please reset the Reader if previous versions 1 or 2 were used.

I just tried 2.1, and I love it!!!

This program represents a GIANT open door to new wonderful programs which can be made for the Sony Reader!

Congratulations, I love this!
Fabian.

Question SUDOKU not running properly - HELP !!!

Hi,
I love the chance to do games on my eReader!

...but am afraid I'm one of the unlucky ones whose SUDOKU does not run (properly):

When I unpacked it (version 2.1) on the SD card it started up very well. I can navigate fine to all options. I can even jump to the play field and type in numbers.

But the display ALLWAYS says "0 (zero) puzzles" in any one level (simple, medium, ...).
I can even save a game (where there are just the numbers that I typed !) and reload it later.
But at every start there is a autorun_log on the SD card stating:

copy error: Fsk error, code = -41

So it seems I can not get at the puzzles saved in the tpl-files (I just for fun copied one line and pasted it into "game": that worked allright.)

Any idea what's wrong and how that might be fixed? It's really hard to see such a fine game and NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY IT!
I'm desperate ...!

P.S: my About says "Version: 1.0.03.07170 / Device: 0800461000355356"
And a question that's really NOT important: does Sudoku 2.1 allow to OVERWRITE given numbers and type in more than one identical digit in one field ?!?

1. This is very strange. All log features do not exist in SUDOKU; looks like there is something left on your card from igorsk's autorun flasher.

The best way to check, is just format the card (quick format is OK) and unpack the whole game again (with all subfolders).

2. I don't understand where you copied the *.tpl files? To "Sony Reader\software" folder, instead of "Sony Reader\software\sudoku" (in which they are supposed to be located)?

3. Sudoku: The number can be overwritten with any number, or erased with "0" button; of cause, only one digit is allowed in any field. "Custom" digits can not be written to the positions of "Fixed" (given) numbers. If you asking this meaning not the game, but possibility to draw pictures one over another, the answer is "yes" (if you are using transparent background for both).

No, I just show how igorsk's finding (autorun) can be used. The programming itself is simple and straightforward (just learn a bit DOM of the Reader from known examples). I expect many other games written by community in the feature.

Sudoku better but still not loading games...

Hi, obelix! Thanks for your speedy answer...

1a. You are right. I reformatted the SD card (Apple iBook: PC-Format) and no new log files were produced.

2a. I copied one line from one of the *.tpl files (via text editor) into the file "Game" that is created when you choose <Quit/Save>. (This is also the only way I can get the cursor moved to the play field: first saving an empty game, then go to <Start/Load>).

So, these mystical log files are explained away but still the screen says "Medium 0 puzzles..." (or similar).
(I must admit (?) though, that I didn't succeed in bringing igorsk's flasher to work, either...)
Any idea what might be/go wrong with my PRS-device?!?

Edit: 4. By the way - could you recommend any examples if someone was interested in learning about the Readre's DOM ?!?
Thank you very much, if you 'd take the pain...

1. If reading the "game" file is OK, may be the problem is in longer subfolder paths? You may try to copy *.tpl files to "Sony Reader\software" (proven good path to the "game" file) and change the path to sudoku templates in the "autorun.js:

target.getSudokuString = function(nStr,num)
{
var res='';
var sudokuPath=this.driveroot+'/Sony Reader/software/sudoku/'+this.sudokuFiles[num];

to "/Sony Reader/software"

4. For those who want to have a look at the examples of the Reader's DOM here is collection of files extracted from the image of 505 reader (+ joystick forward, uniform fonts and clock (image by porkupan (aka boroda) taken from the-ebook.org)). Take a look at the main.xml (the shell and groups) and applicationStart.xml (functions).

Hi obelix,

I tried the change with no effect.
In the meantime I solved one of the (hand copied) puzzles and the final animation worked fine.
It seems that only reading/loading the *.tpl files is a problem...

So I printed out your autorun.js/.xml and will start debugging (for my particular SONY) function by function.
I am not a professional programmer. But I know how to read and make changes to code quite well.
I'll let you know once I found the cause for my personal SONY troubles...

But thanks a lot anyway for giving me (us) a vision for doing games and applications on the PRS!!!

Talking Found bug - but not in YOUR program ...

@ obelix:

I looked into your code and found out that "var s = stream.readline()" in "checkSudokuFiles" returns 40,000.
Without more reading I devided 40,000 by 81 (3 x 3 x 3 sudoku fields) and got:
506.17283951 (edit: "." instead of European ",")
...which didn't seem to make much sense.

When I looked around a bit in your files I got the idea to look how many puzzles are in the *.tpl files. "Simple.tpl" actually has 500 - so I looked closer at the code and saw that "var i" actually is expexted to be "s.length==81" plus ONE.

So I had an obvious connection as 41,000 devided by 81+1 is 500 (puzzles).
Today I was out of house with my family and had the opportunity NOT to think about code lines - and when we came back I realized that my *.tpl files were considered by SONY-PRS to contain ONE huge line each.
I changed line breaks to "UNIX" style and Sudoku does

*** W * O * R * K * !!! ***

I'm almost happy! I will look more closely into your code and do a few changes to make it more comfortable (to my humble taste...).

Again: Thanks a lot for your great work!!!

Post Sudoku: Cursor jumps over fixed digits...

Hi obelix,

in your autorun.js there is a function "target.moveCursor" wherein I made an addition that moves the cursor to the next field OMITTING fields with fixed digits - even if there are several in a row...
(... only got the small and rare drawback that a "free" field surrounded by fixed digits has to be aimed at from a certain "angle". But as cursor moves are still quite slow on eInk I like it better this way.)

If you want to check and integrate it in SUDOKU I'd be happy if you do so!
Here's the code (that anybody might exchange in his autorun.js - but at his own risk):

(This is not PHP Code but looks better this way: )
PHP Code:
...
if (!
this.isMenu){
if (
direction=="right")
  {

this.posX=this.posX+1;
   if (
this.posX>8this.posX=0;
// ======================================= NEW:

var id7 "fixDigit"+this.posY+this.posX;
   while (
this[id7].u>0)    {

this.posX=this.posX+1;
   if (
this.posX>8this.posX=0;

id7 "fixDigit"+this.posY+this.posX;  } // ===

}

if (
direction=="left")
  {

this.posX=this.posX-1;
   if (
this.posX<0this.posX=8;
// ======================================= NEW:

var id7 "fixDigit"+this.posY+this.posX;
   while (
this[id7].u>0)    {

this.posX=this.posX-1;
   if (
this.posX<0this.posX=8;

id7 "fixDigit"+this.posY+this.posX;  } // ===

}

if (
direction=="up")
  {

this.posY=this.posY-1;
   if (
this.posY<0this.posY=8;
// ======================================= NEW:

var id7 "fixDigit"+this.posY+this.posX;
   while (
this[id7].u>0)    {

this.posY=this.posY-1;
   if (
this.posY<0this.posY=8;

id7 "fixDigit"+this.posY+this.posX;  } // ===

}

if (
direction=="down")
  {

this.posY=this.posY+1;
   if (
this.posY>8this.posY=0;
// ======================================= NEW:

var id7 "fixDigit"+this.posY+this.posX;
    while (
this[id7].u>0)    {

this.posY=this.posY+1;
    if (
this.posY>8this.posY=0;

id7 "fixDigit"+this.posY+this.posX;  } // ===

}
this.drawGridCursor(this.posX,this.posY);
}
...
(I only pasted relevant parts of the function.)
