Config and icon files for the 600

I, too, added the new icon to my 600 files. It definitely makes an improvement! Thanks, surquizu!

By the way, if there are other 600 owners out there, below are my files.

In addition to the icons themselves, I have also included my 600_config.js file. This sets up the icons. However, it also adds a "Games & Utilities" node, and puts it on the reader home page. But to do so involved altering core_menu_ui.js as well.

Enjoy!

Sincerely,
Ben.

Battery drain problem

Hi Mark,

Over the weekend I experienced two cases of complete battery drain. Not good! I am assuming the cause was some change that was introduced during the last UI unification.

Mark, have you experienced any problems? Has anyone else out there who is incorporating the latest changes to the games and compiling their own PRS+ experienced battery drain?

I am currently experimenting with not using the games at all, to see if something else is causing the battery drain. I was then going to try the games and only exit by pressing the HOME button. As you can see, I am avoiding exiting by touching the appicon, since that is the only major change that was recently introduced.

Any ideas?

Sincerely,
Ben.

Hi, thank you very much for Chess. I have a wish, if it's not too hard of cause =). It will be great to see such function as solving chess problems. For example "White begins and put check and mate in two moves". It can be included in application as standard number of problems, or as possibility to introduce you own position, and to continue to play from it.

With best regards akinfii

P.S. that's not google translate It's I am =) (I mean sorry for my bad English )

There is also a request to add a Save-Game-Option to Chess, over in the-ebook.org.

Regarding Battery drain problem
I have seen no problems so fare. BUT l use latest code (as Beta-Pack from SD-Card) only on my PRS-505, which - obviously - didn't use any touch-related code.

I have installed PRS+ 2.0.12.beta via ...setup.exe on my PRS650 so fare. Working as expected.
But I'm unable to set up the Beta-Environment by now.
  • Some strange message about "No SD-Card inserted" or "System can't write Bookstate to SD-Card".
  • With Beta-Code from IM, a system-message about "unpredicted memory-state - Formating IM" ereased all files from /Data/
  • Also the quick attempt to install a custom build installer for 650 (with the same codebase as used for the 505) fails. Just a standard UI shows up.
So I will have to so sort this out first.

One quick first thought:
If, the new code causes the trouble, it would probable be the "iconSprite- behaviour".
This seams to generate some "nested" code.
The mouseUp event triggers the script, which calls a function which calls exitIf. Leaving a open call-stack?

On the other hand we know, that exit via a button-doCommand didn't do any harm.
And as I would like to stick with exit via AppIcon, we can alternatively put a invisible button in the top left corner and set the Sprite once again to "active=false"
(That may be the reason for the confirmation popup when shutting down the reader, as this way the last interaction is a button-action.)

Regards
Mark

That should be easy to add - the only problem being how to activate save/load. The interface was already pretty full!

I am not sure I quite understand what you mean, but I would love for you to make the change.

So far, my test has been successful. By not using the games at all, the battery has lasted the usual time. I will start the next part of the test later today, which is using the games but making sure I only exit using the HOME button.

Sincerely,
Ben.

P.S. I hope you sort out the PRS+ installation issues with your 650. I love my 600, but from what I hear the touch sensitivity of the 650 is better, as is the contrast of the screen itself. I sort of wish I had one!

Hi there,

There has been a request for save/load to be added to Chess. I think that will be easy enough. But I am afraid adding chess problems to solve might be more difficult. I will think about it.

Sincerely,
Ben.

sh**t!
Do you see this with all versions, or just with the last "unified-UI" one?

Thanks TJ27,

this gives another lead:
Code:
 		<behavior id="sprite">
  			<script on="mouseUp" params="event">
 				if (this.hitBounds(event.x, event.y))
  					this.bubble("doNumKey",this);
  			</script>
I removed the if (this.hitBounds) line as there was no difference in the Sim.
Lets see if putting it in again solves the mystery.
(Will go for it, this evening)

Regards
Mark

[EDIT]
just checked the repository:
the if(this.hitBounds(event..))line is removed in versions since April, 15th.
Will have to think more about this.
[/EDIT]

Ok figured out where the problem was.
Unfortunately, the code introduced to enable Picture and Audio Nodes with PRS-505, prevents proper initalization on PRS-650.
Without this modifications all modified Apps are working. Just looking if there is a battery drain.

Chess now has save/load (and an 'in check' message)

Hi Mark,

Thanks for that! I look forward to trying it out soon.

I have also just pushed my changes that add save/load to Chess. There are screen buttons for Touch, and for non-Touch I used the Mark button (press for Load and hold for Save) that also involved squeezing in a couple of extra labels. Hope that works OK!

While I was there, I did some general code-tiding (although a lot more could be done!) and added an "in check" message.

I think there is still a problem in automode where black willfully ignores being in check and/or moving into check. Now that I can save/load, if I notice it happening again I can do a save, and then repeatedly load to see if I can find the bug with all the "bubble" messages on!

Sincerely,
Ben.
