PRS+: Enhanced firmware for Sony Reader, Folders, Games & more

Hi, I have problem to install the PRS-Zork-Edition on my PRS-650:
Whether I try to install it over the PRS+2.1.01 alpha or over the 2.0.18, after the restart (without any USB-connection) the reader goes to the native Sony-software (and the "PRSPinstaller"-folder got deleted like it should.)
But when I reinstall the normal PRS+, it informs me before flashing that the "2.1.x Analogus 2012.04.21 rev69" is already installed.

Whats my mistake? I already made a reset and deletet the memory with the sony-software. Nothing works, it always goes into "sony-mode".

Sorry for the troubles.

To be honest: I have no idea...

Problem is: I'm not able (as I wrote on the website) to test the version for the PRS650. I'll have a look on this version in the evening and will compile it once more and activate the download again (deactivated now).

Inbetween use the Uninstaller.
Uninstall current version and install the normal version again. This should help.

PS:
Uninstalling PRS+ is not possible with deleting everything visible on your reader. PRS+ is mainly situated in the invisble internal memory of the reader. To uninstall it use mentioned uninstaller or use the less brute method:

Extract the ZIP-file (say from ZORK-edition) as usual, open the folder and you'll find a file named installer.sh. Open it with an editor (say the normal texteditor in WIN) and read the short explanation. Put a '#' in fromt of the right line (explanation inside) and copy the installer-folder (as usual) onto your reader. Restart. With this '#' you convert the installer into an uninstaller.

Thanks for giving feedback. Without it I cannot be sure wether it's running or not on the PRS650.

Maybe you will suffer non-functional seeming features: line-height, indent and margings. This features are functional but sometimes deserves user-tweaking:

Have a look at my long posting on page 243 concerning CSS-tags. If one or the other epub does not allow changing line-height ... add more CSS-tags to
database\system\PRSPlus\epub\CSS\extern.css

The newest build works also.
Indeed I have some problems with line-height etc. Entering the menu while reading a book with the"+key", I can mark in "line-height" and "font-size fine" every number (one after another) and nothing changes in the text AND every touched icon stays dark. After four touches everythin is dark :-)
But the normal font size (6 steps) works fine.
I tried it with a few ebooks and I am using your build in german language.

I will try to follow your css-tweaking advice within the next days.

Yes, that's the bad behaviour nr.1 I tried to enhance in the latest version 30 minutes ago.
Nr.2 is the necessity to add CSS-tags from time to time 'cause EPUBs do have CSS-files differ from each other.

Download once more the installer from my site - I've updated some files (fonts, CSS-files) missing to make ZORK-Edition working out of the box!

The big advantage of the ZORK-edition is the ability to use this features!

But: the behaviour you describe is 'normal' in non-EPUB-books. So if you use PDFs, TXTs, LRFs or RTF files nothing will happen (except buttons become black one after the other). This is mere a aesthetical problem.

And: Please try to activate at least one time a user-CSS-file before trying to alter line-space etc.



As you can see it's work in progress but should work nevertheless.

I just want to confirm the problem with the 'ZORK' edition of Analogus (for prs350) spotted above by Scipio:
the line-height and fine font size options don't work for me; I tried several epubs, and they did nothing (I tried all of the pre-installed css files).
I have my own css file (for CharisSIL) where the line height is fixed and it works. The relevant part of the file is

body {font-family: serif; line-height: 135%}
.calibre {
font-family: "Charis", serif;
line-height: 135%
}

It's not excluded that all the epubs that I tried were created by calibre.

Some ePub do have line-height in the CSS that overrides what's in the body style. Give a look at the CSS of your ePub and double check that that is not the issue.

I think this is not my case; the css part I posted works for me perfectly. Yet the line-height setting in the ZORK version doesn't work for me (neither with my css, nor with the pre-installed css's)

ZORK-Edition (in my case it does work) functions that way:

It combines the CSS-file on the fly.

Base ist the CSS-file you choose over PRS-menu. Code could be like that:

If you have chosen 'Use External File for CSS-Tags' in 'EPUB-Formatting' (you should do this!) you can edit this part:

Solution (or better 'idea') is to add different tags. You can do it by editing 'extern.css' on the reader.

Take the newest file I upload on this posting and copy it onto your reader in the folder database\system\PRSPlus\epub\CSS\
extern.zip

In my case it works flawless. But from time to time I have to add more tags when reading a new book. As I am new to CSS the file have to be tweaked. I use CALIBRE to get the name of the tag.

But be sure you have chosen the options to use this external file!

Analogus, thanks a lot for your answer. For some reasons it still doesn't work for me, even though the extern.css you posted contains both "body" and ".calibre" tags (those are the only tags addressed in my css file which works for me (to specify a fixed line-height)). When I press a line-height button, it turns black and nothing happens (the same for fine font size). Something strange is going on. (My "use external file for css-tags" option is "yes", and I tried several of the css files you provided (such as CharisSIL.css))

Make an empty file in the folder database\system\PRSPlus\epub\ and name it style.css

Try once more!

The file was there so I made it empty. It didn't help. (I'm probably doing something stupid, but of course I have no idea what)

Hm, maybe I have do rework the CSS-part. In my case it functions flawless. I suggest to wait until I release a new version. I will post it here and of course on the download-page.


If buttons stay black your have either

1) not an EPUB-file but RTF, PDF or TXT

or

2) some file is missing (extern.css, style.css, ...)

or

3) an older version

or

4) bad luck - in other words: a bug which I did not recognize

Ok, now it works.
I did the following steps, I don`t know, which one was the necessary:
- I chose 'Use External File for CSS-Tags' (I did this also the last times)
- I chose the "Vollkorn"-type
- I installed the new "extern.zip" (like Analogus wrote #3655)
- I emptied the "style.css" (#3657)
- I reset the userdefinied .CSS (I only know the german menupoint "Setze benutzerded.
CSS zurück)

Now it works fine, but, like Analogus wrote, only with some .epubs.
E.g.
- "Dante Alighieri, Die göttliche Komödie" works perfect (source: Kindleshop .azw with
calibre to .epub)
- "Eco, Der Friedhof von Prag" does not work --> after touching "line heigh" the screen
refreshes but no change BUT it does not stay marked! (source: official epub-release)
