I have the Sony 505 and don't play with format conversions or use calibre.

Has there been any change in the formats offered by the publishers? All I still see on the website is "format Ebook".

When I ordered mine they came as a Zip containing RTF, Txt and HTML.

Hi SpaceJock, I downloaded the free ebook then purchased the other three! I am on the third one and find them a very fast and enjoyable read.

I received the zip file just fine (thru AOL) and was able to convert for my reader and they look pretty good.

Thanks for the great stories and looking forward to Number 5!

I wonder if Simon has any news for us on both the next book and how the experiment into eBooks went.

I'm still around, just very busy. Working hard on Hal 5, which is supposed to go to my editor by the end of October. Just got back from a 3-4 day writers festival which was held in a city 400km away - that was great fun, but I didn't get any work done at all.

No news yet on the results of the ebook experiment. I can say that over 60,000 people have downloaded the freebie, but I don't know how many of those went on to order the rest of the series.

I'm one of those that downloaded the freebie and loved it!! I emailed your publisher about the format available for the rest of the series. Only book 1 had lrf included.

I don't do conversions and would really, really, love to read the rest of the series. Do you know if you will be offering an epub or lrf format for books 2 through 5?

The publisher emailed your query to me, I made up some LRF files and sent them back. So, the zips for the rest of the series should now include LRFs.

I also asked my publisher to put more info on the ebook page - the total file size and which formats are included the zip.

(They're still having to email the book as a DOC file to anyone with a gmail account, because gmail does not like the html file for some reason. I think it's the inline CSS, but that's necessary to show the book properly.)

That'd be me late last week.

However, the lady dealing with my gmail problems was kind enough to attach .doc files which I'll fiddle with on my end. The files didn't arrive at my operamail account, either, so perhaps that's another place they'll have trouble with?

Anyways! All solved for me; I was buying the content, not necessarily pretty files, at any rate. Less reading forums, more reading books

OMG !!!!

I've been wanting to read the rest of the books for so long and was really frustrated that I could read book 1 (as an lrf was included) but couldn't buy the rest.

I received the new zip files from the publisher, but encountered a problem.

ePub files were included in all books, but they only load 1 page to my Sony 505 Reader. The Sony eLibrary (version 2.5) loads them all, but only 2 books open to page 2. Then all books will not open further and cause the eLibrary to stop and not respond.

I have deleted, reloaded, and again deleted, reloaded. Nothing changes. All other files and ePubs will open and load fine except these.

The book 1 original file with the lrf works well. But the new ePubs seem to cause a problem for me.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Just want to chime in and say I've also read the First Hal Spacejock and it's a fun read!

For dreams and for the publisher: A customer that purchased the epub version of my ebooks wrote me with a similar problem--could only open the first page. I took the rtf files and reconverted them (I originally used a doc file as the conversion file.) The new epubs were then fine and readable. Not sure what happens in the conversion process, but starting with the RTF rather than .doc seemed to clear it up.

Thank you, columbus. I'll try the rtf.

I've just never tried the rtf versions on the Reader because I'm afraid something will cause it to freeze and I won't be able to fix it (says the very, very, nontechie ).

Cathy, from the publisher, has been very helpful and said she had forwarded my email to Simon. As he is trying to make deadline for the next book, it may be a bit before I hear from him. So, I'll be patient as I want to add book 5 to my library.
