hello. i have problems with the m92 i just got...
i tried to install the dictionaries, but they work pretty bad, like they show me programming strings or something before the (wrong!) definition... i also tried to put new fonts but it shows me only the first 25 (the ones that fit in the menu) how can i access the others? and it seems that the fonts are only usable if they are on a sd card... why? i also would like to ask something about the 20120607 version of the firmware: is there a way to make it display the title of the pdf instead of the metadatas? also i would like to know if i loose the warranty on my device using it and if it is possible to downgrade to the factory's version and how. btw do you know if there's any difference between leaving the device switched on the last page read, or putting it in stand by, or switching it off? afaik it should use energy only to change pages, right? thanks for your help pals. you're cool! I have an older firmware than the newest, so it might be different in the latest one...
All dictionaries show formating tags if you are in one of the dictionary modes. I gave it to the buglist on Wiki. It is possible to downgrade firmware, but you have to have the instalation file with firmware version desired. I have not tested it, but beeing on should use more energy (for the stylus and processor) than beeing stand by and that one more (something runs) than beeing off (nothing runs). I do not know if there is a big difference between those 3. If not reading, I use stand by. It does not seem to consume much. Even leaving it on was fine, but it caused "problems" while transportation - the keys might be unwantingly pressed... |

It is not possible to link other file (picture/pdf) to the main document. But it is possible to write notes directly to a document, just like on a paper one with pen. And it is possible to make a new pdf with the original text and read it and with some problems even print on PC. So, M92 now is sort of direct replacement of a paper document/book and pen (if you do not miss the color and accept that you will not see comfortably the both pages of a book and for most scientific papers you need to zoom even within the single page... That is the price for 10" b&w display). It is not possible to export only the chips of the text with notes, which would be very usefull, but thanks the God for that what has already been implemented! |

Thanks for the update of i62HD. The device is really great but there are still some minor annoyances:
I noticed that some icon labels have an unwanted line break in some localizations. So, some two line labels become a three line label, now. The third line is nearly unreadable because it reaches out of the icon spaces. I am not shure, if it was the same way before, I just mentioned it. Also some dictionaries crashes immediatly, now. They work in the last firmware. Now, only the original built-in dictionary works flawlessly. Unfortunately, CoolReader has serious problem with several epubs. CoolReader crashes suddenly when it tries to open an epub. When it opens an ePub it has some problems with special characters, which FBReader opens just fine. But FBReader show other problems like inconstitent page numeration and has some other features missing, I like on CoolReader and vice versa. Even if the above might sound so bad: It isn't. The device is still beautiful and I hope to give some feedback will improve future versions of the firmware. Many thanks, Frank Edit: Sorry, I have downloaded the firmware from here and just made a quick post. Now, copied this post into the proper thread. Last edited by FrankSmith; 07-05-2012 at 05:24 AM. |

Writing Functionality
Mono, I agree the ability to scribble onto pdf files in itself is immensely useful. I also agree that implementing something like linking scribbles to pdf-documents seems like a lof hassle (although this could could possibly be done by exporting the scribbles themselves to pdf-files, then adding them to the end of the document, then placing a text link onto the text that the scribble refers to. All of these features exist (merging pdfs not yet on the M92, I suppose), just the combination does not seem to be there yet. And well, the split screen would be nice, but if it cannot be done, it is not worth lamenting about its absence. Since Onyx Dev Team seems to be rather open for the request made by the community, I hope they try implementing something like this in the future. It is nice to see that the M92 has (almost) acquired the status of a viable replacement for paper, but the full potential of the technology goes well beyound that. Linking scribbles to portions of text is one step towards creating your own learning / researchig platform based on the files you are working with. Add the possibility to cross-reference between portions of text/images from other files, adding footnotes with this cross-reference ability and you are well on the way to establish a new technological approach to scientific research. I see this is a lot of work, but for once, hardware does not seem to be an issue. Even the M92 should be able to perform all these tasks. Alas, there seem to be so few software engineers able to do that...
With regard to the scribbling application, there is an issue with it that really lowers productivity. The display sometimes seems to ignore the digitizers input for no particular reason. Especially when you do not have the time to wait for five seconds, then try scribbling something down again, maybe wait another 5 seconds, this problem is somewhat annoying. During a lecture, for example, this has repeatedly proven to be a real dealbreaker for this device (which is why the M92 has mostly been replaced by some trusty pages of good ole paper in any critical environments). This is a pity, since otherwise, I think the M92 is quite recommendable for people studying or working at the university. Some work still needs to be invested in order to make this device a real replacement for books, pen, pencil, coloured ballpens and paper, but once these features are implemented, I do not see why any student or researcher would not want to buy the M92. I recorded a video in order to point out the problem with the scribbling annotation. If interested, please use the following link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hgp1yhuaaa3zkmb/SAM_0268.AVI |

Hi Booxtor,
I've received my M92, could you provide a link on the previous firmware (just before 1.7.20120607 - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/23593310/update-20120607.zip). I want to avoid the issue about the filenames of ebooks. I've ask this in the comment with my order... Thanks. |

It has probably something to do with saving the energy consumption. It would be very nice, if the user could switch the sleep-mode off even for price of higher consumption. At lecture one needs to be able to write immediately and with no delay. @Booxstor, would it be possible to implement user option to switch sleep-mode of digitizer off. I hope it is not hardwired in hardware or its driver.... Last edited by Mono; 07-10-2012 at 12:01 PM. |

Here it is enough, if i move the pen a handful cm from the screen's edge.

Problem "solved"
Thanks for the help, guys. Moving the stylus away from the screen (quite a bit, though) does help indeed. So until the scribbling aplication is made to work as it should, the problem can be worked around every time it occurs- which is pretty often. May we all see the day when scribbling becomes usable in time-critical environments, as well. I hope switching off the power management feature for the time of scribbling is something that can easily be implemented in one of the next firmware updates.

![]() My workaround was to make a dot far from current possition. While doing it I naturaly also detached a pen from screen. Since now, I will live without dots... ![]() |

HI Friends,
Did anybody experience the problem I posted? The EPUBs I open using CoolReader are not appearing in the Recent Documents list, and the Read Count is always 0. But it remembers the page left off. Please, BOOX Gurus like BOOXTOR, tell me if this is an isolated problem of mine? Is there a solution? Cheers, RENUSHAN. |
