It was a nice, average day today, and after working in the garden I jumped in the pool to refresh and wash-off. We may get a few showers tomorrow, as a tropical cyclone up north that turned into a tropical low when it crossed land in the gulf, is now swirling its moisture down towards us (though not nearly as much as they got up north, where they are dealing with extensive flooding). Apparently the king tides, big seas, and diminishing beach caused 12 people to need to be rescued on Noosa Main Beach today. Unfortunately, the surfcam appeared to be out of action today, so I didn't see it and nor can I show it to you. Cheers, Marc |

Temperature changed from -15 at night to 0 during noon. Problem is, we´ve been trying to build an "ice house" in the garden. We´ve been using form boards you would use for concrete (to form walls). Water´s more liquid than concrete, so it took us about 10 days to get a first ice wall. Now we have 0 degree AND the sun´s come out shining directly on the ice wall; I tried to safe it by arranging three sunshades around it in the garden and putting the form board around it again. Don´t know, if this will help. That sounds a little crazy, doesnt´it? Well, it´s just a way to kill time in winter and to motivate the children to go outside even if it´s real cold... |

Still raining today. Green grass can be seen, maybe the puppy will get a clue as to where to do her business now that most of the snow has melted. Two more avalanche tragedies yesterday in B.C., last three weeks has taken a large toll on skiiers and snowmobilers, I've lost count. Last edited by Wetdogeared; 01-12-2009 at 11:01 AM. |

Could try adding some paper to it and turn it into pykrete "Pykrete is a composite material made of approximately 14 percent sawdust or some other form of wood pulp (such as paper) and 86 percent ice by weight. ...Pykrete has some interesting properties, notably its relatively slow melting rate (due to low thermal conductivity), and its vastly improved strength and toughness over unmodified (crystalline) ice, actually closer to concrete. It was snowing this morning. Again. We weren't supposed to get snow today. Then again, it has stopped now, in time for my appointment across campus at noon.... |

Wow. Snow. My partner has never actually seen snow, just pictures. We have the other sort of weather right now, it's predicted to hit 40 degrees today (that's 313K!) I went out to get lunch and was sweating by the time I'd walked 50m, it's just unpleasant out there. And the UV is also waaay up, pasty people like me burn in under half an hour. So I'm eating ice cream and lying round in the shade. It's only 300K in the shade right now, and at least it's a fairly dry heat. Inside it's 293 and that's where I'm staying. Happy Bushfire Season |
