heh. no worries. this is paris, not canada.

there was one winter where the canal famously froze so solid and for so long that people got in the habit of walking across it on the ice ; when it finally began to thaw the had to post policemen along the banks to prevent anyone from falling in. but that was exceptional. that's crazy that the Edmonton Queen got stuck though. did it freeze in an instant ? or how did that happen ? and how will she get unstuck ? wait for spring ???

over here it is, astoundingly, snowing. it snowed during the night, and it was snowing still / again when i looked out the window a little while ago. pretty soon i'm going to go outside and take a look. moejoe, you should jump on the eurostar on saturday, what could be better than a paris meetup AND snow ?

maybe you should even pack *2* scarves. also i recommend a good warm hat, some gloves, and wool socks. definitely.

it's not snowing at the moment (i think) but they've announced more snow overnight and possibly even more in the next few days. i went out for a walk along the canal, which turned out to be a good idea because there was quite a lot of it left there, although the canal is not at all frozen. here are some photos.

Oh my.
There were a couple of small flurries of snow in Cardiff but nothing settled. It makes me feel cold just looking at those pictures.

If it's still as bad as it was a couple of days ago, then wrapping up warm is essential for Paris. According to a friend, CDG has been cancelling London flights, which has knock on for Eurostar popularity....

(What's been happening about the strikes -- several RER lines were closed as well????)

really, they're cancelling flights too ? is that because of paris conditions or london conditions ? i didn't think we had *that* much snow...

oh, yep, last i heard the strike was still on. i wonder if this will be like that huge strike about 10 years ago or so which lasted a month (but without "minimum service" ; NOTHING ran, at all). they seem to like to have those in december. and it was freezing that year too.

I've got a Eurostar seat booked. Some of the English Eurostar drivers are apparently going on strike. Also some signalmen in the Severn Tunnel area are also having a strike tomorrow.
I shall be quite relieved to get there.

Not sure. London Heathrow was pretty clear -- a few light snowfalls, but nothing much and nothing lying on the ground. Although Heathrow is so busy that almost anything can lead to delays I wouldn't have expected cancellations, so I don't know if which end was causing the problem.

Though at present at least some of the news programs are playing up the impact of the snowfalls that are due. Let us see what the morning brings...

hm, interesting. this should be a fun winter for travellers if they are cancelling flights at the first sign of snow ; in paris at least we've got more to come this week, and it's early in the season still...

Alas, no. I arrive at Paddington at noon and have to get to St Pancras for a 2pm deaprture, but need to include 30 minutes for check-in and security, plus time to collect the electronic tickets and buy some lunch.
