Yep, that's a polytunnel. They are plastic tunnels which protect plants from wind, frost, and heavy rain. The the air and ground inside a tunnel is also warmer (essentially a green house). They are necessary for plants such as strawberries as it just doesn't get hot enough here (well except for today where it reached 27C / 80F).

I planted out my tomatoes today and have made a 'do-it-yourself' plastic greenhouse for them.

Thanks! I guess they're not exactly something we need here in the Valley, are they? We would have cooked veggies & berries! Might help with the humidity though.

OK, wha the heck was it doing at 27C today?? Planning on a hotter than heck summer in them thar woods?

No, not here. But where I used to live, in North Central Arkansas, they were handy for getting an early start on veggies.

Exactly! It is very, very, unusual. And it is hot again today -- our 5th day of sunny, hot weather. I saw a lot of fair-skinned Scots with sunburns wandering around the supermarket last night.

Okay, not as hot as Arizona, but hot for Scotland.

Today- too hot and humid! 80-something. It's always 80 something. Except when it's 90-something, or often 70-something at night/morning. The vog is particularly bad today, and it gave me a bad headache. It works like a bad nasty smelling/tasting atmosphere that traps the heat. It's been bad lately- can barely tell we live on an island because you can't see the ocean!

A damp start this morning, mist and drizzle - but not too cold....

Our polytunnel is nowhere as large as the examples in the wiki link. Just 10ft*30ft, at the price it was more area than if we'd got a rigid glas structure......

Brilliant. The garden badly needs a good water. Could you make sure you roll yourself towards my side of Hampshire at the weekend!

(Actually, it's been too hot for me over the last few days, at least during the middle of the day, so I don't mind being stuck in the office too much!)

Still overcast in the 12/15C range. Normal fer this time should be 22C.

We still run the pellet stove during the evenings, otherwise it would be unbearable.
