Harry Houdini is a haunted man. Haunted by success; his emotions; and now by some of his compatriots: famed and feted illusionists like himself. The only problem is that they are dead. Houdini knows that time is running out, and before he is ready to die he must perform one final trick, the greatest illusion of his life... "Steve Savile treats this mythology with all due respect, and has a style which blends nicely subdued reverence for Houdini and all his works, with spot-on characterisation. The story reads almost as if it might be a lost episode from the electrifying life of the world's most celebrated escapologist." --SF Site "Savile's narrative is deceptively low-key, showing a thoughtful (almost philosophical) aging Houdini as he calmly addresses his own mortality—knowing full well that his debt is indeed up for repayment. There is also an underexplored time travel element that nevertheless works despite remaining mysterious. The novella, an expanded version of a tale which won in the 2002 Writers of the Future competition, wallows in a realistic nostalgia—both the nostalgia Houdini feels for his glorious youth, and that which the author seems to feel for the period." --William Gagliani, Chizine. "The plot moved along, and the supernatural delighted and surprised. I find it particularly wonderful that someone gifted with real magical ability would still use illusion for shows and showing up spirits." --FeoAmante.com "Savile makes you empathise with Houdini, making a connection that will make you reluctant to put the book down. It's fortunate then that this is a short book else I would have missed out on more sleep than I did. I simply had to finish it in a single sitting....(Savile) writes in a concise manner. There's no waste of words here. His has a knack of breathing life into his characters without having to explain every nuance. We do not need to know the shirt size of each person we meet to accept the way they act, and Savile realises this. 9/10" --Eternal Night. "Savile effectively mixes in an interesting backstory on Houdini, including tactics he uses to complete his illusions. The characterization is also spot-on, bringing his cast of characters to life. It’s quite obvious that Savile has done his homework on Houdini, writing about actual events from the illusionist’s life while mixing in his own reflections to make a cohesive narrative. It doesn’t get much better than this, folks. It’s easily the best book I’ve read so far this year, and earns a 10 out of 10. Savile is a fantastic writer, and is underappreciated in this reviewer’s humble opinion. Do yourself a favor and snatch up anything he’s written. I promise you won’t be disappointed." --The Horror Drive-In. "His writing style is elegant but essential, smooth but poignant. Houdini's character, apparently so detached and aloof, actually tainted by a touch of gloom and loneliness, a sense of pity for himself, the human condition and life seen as a perennial illusion, is described by Savile with uncommon craftsmanship. I urge you to buy a copy of the book: you'll discover than even fiction, like the tricks performed by a skilled illusionist, can be magic. 5 Stars." --Mario Guislandi, The Zone |

The Kama Sutra - new edition, epub and Kindle
![]() I've put together an edition of The Kama Sutra. It's illustrated, and has all the contents and footnotes linked and working. A lot of work has gone into the formatting and layout. The epub version has embedded fonts. If Amazon's file format supported fonts, I'd do it there as well, but it turns out that Amazon's notion of file-formatting is quite retarded compared to epub. Because of the level of formatting involved and the file size, the Epub version can't go through Smashwords. The Kindle version was turned down by Amazon, because, they said, of the 'hardcore' (their word) content. That's ridiculous, considering the spurious and tasteless nature of some of the sex-related titles that are available in the Kindle store. But it's their call. As a result, the only place this edition of the Kama Sutra is currently available is here (dminoz.com) There are links to free sample downloads in both Epub and Kindle formats. The samples contain about half the content of the complete book. I have the files set up on box.net. If anyone has any problems downloading them, please let me know. Warning: contains explicit (but in-context and appropriate) imagery. Totally NSFW (depending on where you work, of course.) Here's the blurb: An ancient Sanskrit text on the art of love and sexual technique, the Kama Sutra has been a source of inspiration for countless lovers (well, ok, and just straight out fornicators) over many centuries. Originally a compilation of material from other ancient texts, some of which are now lost, the Kama Sutra was first put together by an individual known as Mallanga Vatsyayana. It is not known when he did this; Sir Richard Burton, the translator of the text on which this version is based, estimates that Vatsyayana lived some time between 100 AD and 600 AD. This edition has been re-edited where it seemed as though the language could be made to flow more smoothly for the modern reader. In addition, illustrations and quotes from various sources have been interspersed with Burton's translation. The end result, it is hoped, is a sexually explicit and thought-provoking rendition of the Kama Sutra which does justice to the timelessness and universality of its subject matter. An appendix of sexual positions has been added. Most of them are physically possible. Some, well... TECHNICAL NOTE: This epub version of the Kama Sutra has been proofed in Sigil and on a Sony PRS-650 Reader. If you are going to be reading this title on an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch, do not waste your time using Stanza. Stanza is thoroughly retarded when it comes to file formatting, and will happily ignore most of the work on formatting that has gone into producing this file. Instead, use the very excellent and free Bluefire Reader (bluefirereader.com), which respects formatting, including embedded fonts, like no other epub reader. THE KAMA SUTRA |

Announcing my new book Where Dreams Are Born. For those who like a love story along with their drama and suspense, this story might be for you.
It was supposed to be a win-win situation—a safe environment in which to raise a son for single mom Vicky, housekeeping and childcare for widowed Jack. Believing they’ve had their shot at happiness, neither is looking to complicate their lives with a romantic entanglement. At first Jack sees Vicky as skinny and plain, guarded with him, but openly warm with his children, an important quality for a man who grew up in the foster care system. However, his growing attraction to the woman who scrubs his toilets and washes his underwear complicates their working relationship. Vicky, too, is reluctant to get involved, having been down that road before with disastrous results. When Jack learns his best friend fathered Vicky’s son and now wants partial custody, he feels threatened. He’s come to care deeply for both, and doesn’t want to lose the family they’ve become. In desperation he offers a radical solution—marriage. Vicky knows she can do worse than marry Jack, but wonders how successful their marriage would be when its only reason for being was to keep from losing her son. Add to this a troubled child with a secret about her dead mother and a vindictive ex bent on revenge and problems abound. Thank you for reading. Joyce |

There's a new review of The Losing Role in the Historical Novel Review, and it includes a real-life historical connection. Reviewer Gregory Graham's father experienced firsthand some of the novel's horrid events as an infantryman in WWII's Battle of the Bulge.
Graham also recommends the novel. He gives a few good reasons why, most touching on the depiction of war as tragedy. But, my favorite: "Finally, the book is fun." You can find the review here: http://historicalnovelreview.blogspo...-anderson.html Thanks and happy reading, Steve |

Hello everyone. My name is Randy Noble, and I write horror/thriller/suspense/sci-fi type stories. If that's your thing and you need a nice little escape from reality, and want to be entertained in the process, check out my novel, Surviving The Theseus. Until February 10, you can download it from Smashwords for free using the coupon code EX97P. And if you feel like paying for it
![]() If a shorter story is more your taste, check out Hell and/or Over The Bridge on Smashwords (free) or Amazon (not free). Some words of caution: all my stories are filled with profanity that would make a sailor blush. Well, Over The Bridge isn't so bad, but, whew, Hell will take you through -- well -- hell. Seriously though, my stories are not for the easily offended. Violence, profanity, and sexual references (that may make a sailor blush). Anyway, thanks for reading my post, and if you read any of my stories, I really do hope you enjoy and are entertained. Randy |

Hi Folks1
Something a little different from me! A Collection of four paranormal romance stories aimed at the younger market. It's called Fallen Snow and is available from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Fallen-Snow-ebook/dp/B004M18OH4 For only 99c An except - Strawberry Shortlegs prised off the lid and stepped back, the doll had begun to weep. The box was full of white stuffing and bits of scarlet fur. “This is all that’s left of the brave bear. They didn’t return the head.” Mr. Patch gently picked up the box and peered inside. “Rambear was my friend,” he murmured. Tears ran down his furry cheeks. Two Polly Pockets emerged out of one of her pink slippers. “We must surrender,” they said. “And hope they show us some mercy.” Mr. Patch picked out Rambear’s severed leg and waved it in front of their faces. “Does this look like the act of a benevolent person to you?” he screamed. |

Red Adept gave Serendipity House 5 stars for characters, storyline, and writing. See review here.
Demoralized by her mother and fiancé, Sylvie heads for the hills on the day she’s to wed. Coming across a quaint country inn with an intriguing name, she impulsively checks in. There she finds the support and genuine affection she’s always longed for; she even accepts the job of managing it. When Alex arrives, she immediately becomes suspicious. Why would an attractive and distinguished man want to vacation at an inn that’s clearly seen better days? Although she’s determined to avoid him, she finds herself falling in love with him. Then she learns that Alex didn’t just happen upon the inn, that he’s actually a streetwise PI sent by her jilted fiancé to bring her home, and she’s furious. Making matters worse, he’s also bought the inn and expects her help in renovating it. Thanks for reading and I hope you'll visit my website, joycedebacco.com to read the first 2 chapters of all my books. Joyce |
