Just wanted to share a nice reader review on Amazon for my novel False Refuge:

A great story that someone needed to tell, January 7, 2011
By Chris Truscott

This is the third Steve Anderson novel I've read over the past six weeks or so--and it's the best.

Anderson does an amazing job telling a tough story about a 1991 Persian Gulf War veteran who'd rather go AWOL than deploy to Iraq for the continuation of that conflict more than a dozen years later.

In addition to vivid descriptions of Hawaii and his trademark character development, Anderson also articulates a point of view on the current Iraq War that got little airing during the 2002 war debate and the subsequent press coverage of the 2003 invasion.

Even if you don't agree with the political points of view expressed, False Refuge is a great story and it's told in a memorable way. At the very least, it'll make you think--and that's not a bad thing.

I don't often promote this book but I thought this review summarized well what it's about, and I appreciated the reader got what I was going for. I hope you'll give it a look.

Hi there,

I released a new book this week. Claws costs $2.99 and is sold at Amazon and Smashwords.

In picturesque Athens, Alabama, a pet food company is working with an experimental cat food laced with hormones and appetite enhancers. The feed causes cats to add muscle, gain weight, and exhibit extremely aggressive behavior. When Patricia Reese, head of the research project, threatens to expose the pet food as a threat to public safety, she finds herself out of work, her home ransacked, and all her carefully gathered proof missing.

The cats involved in the testing are scheduled to be euthanized by the company, but well-meaning animal rights activists release the animals. These enhanced, hyper-aggressive felines begin to prey on small game in the area, and then the ravenous animals turn their attention to people.

An unemployed scientist, a small special ops team, and a homeless veteran join forces to protect the inhabitants of Athens. Racing against time, they try to prevent the looming catastrophe.

But when someone steals the secret formula that created the menace and sells it to eight foreign enemies of the United States, the most deadly biological weapon ever created has been unleashed. The genie is out of the bottle and the world may never be the same.

Dr. Bertrand Diesel is a sexual psychologist who spends his days listening to stories of dysfunction and perversion, including a patient involved in a physical love affair with his dog, and a mortician who can’t keep his hands to himself. Unfortunately, the good doctor is unable to control his need for self-gratification. He secretly tapes his sessions with patients and bringing them home each night to use for his own dysfunctional pleasure.

Necrophiliac mortician Larry O‘Malley is referred to the doctor as a condition of his continuing employment, fresh from dealing with the death of his father. His troubles only worsen when he switches toe tags in an effort to keep Daddy around for a while longer, sending an urn-full of John Doe home for the family to grieve over.

Things take an unpleasant turn when Larry is fired before he’s able to cremate the family patriarch, and his coterie of corrupt kin are suddenly forced to deal with corpse disposal.

Dual morality plays ensue: O’Malley against O’Malley, while Dr. Diesel spars with step-brother Del, purveyor of all that is right and holy, bent on bringing him down.

The Wisdom of Repugnance is a black comedy exploring that internal shudder we are all supposed to have which helps us differentiate between, say, someone who loves their dog, and someone who LOVES their dog.
