Hi everyone,

I am nervously presenting my first shameless plug on Mobilereads. Be kind to the newbie.

My novel, Coombe's Wood, is a thriller and suspense novel priced at $0.99 for a short while. Here's a bit about it:

When Izzy Santana and her 13-year-old son Connor move into a flat in the sleepy village of Cedham, they think the terrors of their abused past are behind them. Locals darkly warn her to stay away from nearby Coombe's Wood, hinting at ludicrous superstitions. But Izzy is so delighted to have found a haven for her son that she takes little notice. Then a disembowelled rabbit turns up on her doorstep, along with a distinctive cigarette butt, and she knows ex-partner George has found her. What Izzy needs to do is protect Connor. She has already started to uncover the ancient secrets of the village, and now she works out the perfect way to get rid of George... for good.

Coombe's Wood got into the ABNA 2009 semi finals (you can read the Publishers Weekly review on the book page) and was runner up in the YouWriteOn book of the year contest. Plus I've had several fabulous reviews recently, here’s the latest:

Although Coombe's Wood begins with the excitement of a place of their own for Izzy and her son Connor, it doesn't take long before we get that itchy, creepy feeling that bad things have happened there before. No words are wasted, as Hinsley sweeps us along, sprinkling little clues of foreboding throughout. The scrawling on the wall says not to go in the woods, yet we just know someone will. I got chills just reading this. Not wanting to put it down, I stayed up late just to finish it. Extremely well written. Gripping.

Thanks for looking!

I posted this in the Writers' Corner, but since this is SHAMELESS.

In an age of steam power and rifles, where magic has not yet been forgotten, a nine year old orphan girl named Senta is adopted by Zurfina, a mysterious and powerful sorceress who joins an expedition to found a colony in a lost world. The Voyage of the Minotaur is a story of adventure and magic, religion and discrimination, steam engines and dinosaurs, angels and lizardmen, machine guns and wizards, bustles and corsets, steam-powered computers, hot air balloons, and dragons.

Join the expedition to colonized distant, exotic Birmisia and meet its leaders: Iolanthe Dechantagne, who cares for nothing but restoring the once great prestige of her family name; her brother Terrence, a hero with a dark secret, haunted by an beautiful angel; Zeah Korlann, the butler and member of the minority Zaeri religion who face discrimination at home and abroad; Professor Merced Calliere, creator of the Result Mechanism, a steam-powered computer; Radley Staff, a navel officer with a love for women and one woman in particular; Saba Colbshallow, a boy who rises from a lowly household servant to become a community leader; and of course the Steel Dragon. Hatched from an egg by Zurfina, what is the destiny of this strange mythical creature on a continent where dragons are worshipped as gods?

The Voyage of the Minotaur is the first book of a series: Senta and the Steel Dragon. It is available now at Smashwords.com for $4.95. Get $1.00 off by using the discount code: DW38Q.

Thumbs up

(Since I've gotten away before with plugging a non-novel in this thread, I'm going to try it again. If this is ungood, I will gladly move it.)

I would hereby like to prostitute... er, PROMOTE myself as a novice editor.

Are you desperate for someone to read your novel?... Someone that is neither related to you nor afraid of hurting your feelings? Someone that will spot your dangling modifiers, comma splices, fragmented sentences, and other just plain weird stuff that nobody but you will ever understand?

SOMEONE THAT WILL DO IT FOR FREE!?

Yes, folks, for a limited time, I will read and edit your novel the best I possibly can, for the low price of $0.00 (¥0). All I will ask of you in return is to give me an editing credit if you think I did a good job. I am an English university student. I have actually studied grammar and style. I am ready and willing to help you, to gain experience, and to see if I could do this for money. You have nothing to lose, and the respect and admiration of your peers to gain.

If anyone is interested, PM me and I will give you my email address.

Hi Everyone! I guess here's my shot... My novel is called Tangled Temptations. It's for the Kindle for now and it's only $1.00!!!

When a body ends up on the interstate, all of the evidence leads to some sort of Paranormal being. It becomes the responsibility of Crispin Solomon, Prince and ruler of the Vampire Nobility, to track down who could have done such a thing.

It also provides him with the perfect excuse to employ a certain Mage that he had been obsessed with over the past few years.

Dylan Maxwell is a woman who knows how to run her business. She's the youngest of the Maxwells, a known and respected family of Keepers (Mages charged with policing the Paranormals). Dylan reluctantly takes the case of the dead man from New Jersey. But she soon finds herself thrown into a new world with entirely new rules.

And with Crispin at her side, Dylan finds out exactly how anger and hate can change into passion and love faster than her Transmutation Gloves can allow.

Tangled Temptations

Thanks!!!

GREAT NEWS!

I just learned it's 5:00 o'clock somewhere - or that it WILL be 5:00 o'clock somewhere - perhaps even today! This is a good reason to promote your book...don't you think?

I have just shamelessly opened a new thread, describing my latest novel (third in a series of The Kestral Voyages). You absolutely need to see it... if for no other reason, because it so ably describes the thrills, chills and adventures that fill The Kestral Voyages, and why you need to buy every book of The Kestral Voyages as soon as humanly possible.

(How'm I doin'?)

Hey everyone, I know some of you read and enjoyed 24 Bones, my next book is out now too, The Sand Dragon. It's just been released, of course in multiformat via fictionwise but Kindle too and paperback if you like cutting down the last chance at our world's survival...sorry, that is only funny on the Mobilereads site.

Here are the links:
http://www.amazon.com/The-Sand-Drago...9708815&sr=1-3
http://www.fictionwise.com/ebooks/b107633/?si=0

Here's the blurb:

The discovery of an immense pterosaur skeleton lures paleontologist Kim Axon to the tar sands near her childhood home of Fort Mic. But Kim's not the only one drawn to the find's siren call, and the others are coming for a very different reason.

Fort Mic, where Kim's father was murdered long ago, is both blessed and cursed by the shadow population who gravitate to the area for cheap trailers while they mine the sands for oil. Townsfolk begin to fall sick. Fearing the spread of the strange disease, the new doctor quarantines the town.

Now alone, the broken community must rise above its past to battle outsiders who do not fear the return of an ancient evil, but worship it.

Please let me know if you enjoy it!

How strange... This book is not available in Australia from Amazon, but no problem with Fictionwise

You know what Lene, I am really glad you've confirmed something for me. I can't get the Kindle version here is Canada either. I just assumed it was Amazon taking a while to get everything uploaded (it was very recently released). But now I'm thinking there's an error in the geographic restrictions. It should be worldwide. Glad you found it on Fictionwise though. Also available on Mobipocket and from the publisher.

Cheers,

Mike

Cyberdrome: The award-wining SF thriller just reduced to $1.99 (for a limited time!)

Alek Grey specializes in preventing break-ins to secure computer systems. When a company calls him in after their system is compromised, he is shocked to learn that his own father is one of over forty people trapped in neural-interface with a revolutionary new form of artificial reality called Cyberdrome.

When an attempted rescue mission goes horribly wrong, trapping his ex-girlfriend along with the others, he learns that these events may have been triggered by the emergence of a smarter-than-human intelligence inside Cyberdrome, possibly giving rise to the long-feared, "Technological Singularity." Faced with overwhelming obstacles and quickly running out of time, Alek realizes that there is only one way left to save the people he loves.

But that could mean risking the fate of all humanity!

Winner of the 2008 PODBRAM Award for "Best Science Fiction Novel of the Year" and now available in eBook format for the Amazon Kindle, B&N Nook, Sony Reader, Apple iPad, and others.
Go to www.Cyberdrome.org to learn more.

Just a quick random note to shamelessly promote my writing, and to publicly acknowledge a bunch of folks who have already taken a look. The best thanks a writer can have is to have happy readers, so you guys are the best!

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

If you have not already done so, please check out my science fiction debut short story, “We Don’t Plummet Out of the Sky Anymore” which is available as a free download via Smashwords.

You can get a copy in your choice of Mobi, ePub, PDF and/or LRF by following this link, or by clicking one of the images below. The cover photo will take you to the book page, whereas clicking on my ugly mug will bring you straight to my profile, where you will be able to see other new stories as they are added (you should see new additions on a semi-regular basis... so feel free to bookmark/share the link if you like them!):

Quote:

Ebook Description

"If I were editing a magazine I would be seriously considering buying this story for publication—but I'm not, so I can't. Sorry."

— Bruce Bethke, author of "Cyberpunk" and Headcrash

. . .

Stan wanted a flying car. No, that wasn't quite accurate... Stan wanted a nice flying car, and the quantities of bliss that purchase would bring. Stan desired bliss.

Fortunately, Bliss also desired Stan.

Biography:

Over the course of three and a half decades, M. David Blake has been a Revolutionary War reenactor, a ditch digger, a troubleshooter, a gallery artist, a woodturner and a poet. He has run soundboards for live performances, done lost-wax casting, scooped ice-cream while serving as a barista, crash-tested software used by a significant portion of the entertainment industry and reassembled the shattered skull of a murder victim. He was asked to leave one college, graduated from two others, and in the process utterly flunked a course dedicated to the study of science fiction.

Blake currently lives in Hillsborough, North Carolina, with his wife, their daughter, one geriatric cat, and several thousand books.
Any reviews would be appreciated. Thank you!
